Do you want to color coat the plane also or just clear coat it?

Welcome back again.

I'm no painter by any stretch to give color or coat advice, other then what I get by with for myself.... but I always pay attention to responses when the questions come up.

I'm curious if those ailerons are the stock size/shape? I'm not that familiar with this plane.... and although they might be just fine, they just look slim/disproportionate for some reason.

You've made alot of progress since starting this thread, enjoy it, and no hurries on anything... and you soon might have this plane completed.

Good catch on the ailerons. I hadn't even noticed there were ailerons on the wing. A reason why they are so small?

So I wasn't seeing things? Thanks for that positive affirmation... LOL...

The plane looks like a low-wing Stik, of some sort... A giant Sweet-n-Low maybe?... or an AMR Stik...?? not sure though, and can't put my finger on it... the fuselage looks to be modified as well, with a front/rear turtle-deck of some sort... as the true Stiks start life with sqaured fuselages.... of which I am familiar several versions of the Stik family...(arent' we all right)...

The ailerons on most Stiks I've seen and owned are very near the span of the wing panel they belong too... strip style. Some are scalloped, some aren't...there might even be an occasional large Stik with barn-door/outboard ailerons.... but I've never seen ailerons like this...

...and yeah, the ailerons on this particular Stik look... well... small... maybe too small to be as effective as they should be or could be... but this is just something to ponder for conversation.

So yeah, we're all curious about the ailerons now aren't we.

Well I did not design the ailerons. They are made from the Hobby Shack plans. I just flipped the fuse and redesigned things a bit...
I added the turtle deck and added a little in front of the cockpit. I gave it some shape. I also added some fillets to the stab and made it bolt on. The wings is shaped as drawn on the plans. I did not scallop the ailerons. I thought they might be small. Since I am using dubro pinned hinges I could increase the size with relative ease. For not I figured I would stick with the stock design.
As to how long? Well....
Too long!!! lol
I recently moved so it actually sat for a while. I have had it for 20 years and started fixing it a few years ago. I picked it up again this past month and begin covering. I still have a little covering to do then clear coat and assemble with the hardware. It has the rudder and elevator and wing servo's mounted already. The engine/landing gear have been mounted and installed as well.

Cool... the ailerons just look a bit different then a few of us are accustomed to seeing.

That Stik won't be anything crazy and wild like that, which is fine of course, and it will probably fly similar to anything designed over 20yrs ago... and if it's had weight added to it, ... it will still fly like anything designed over 20yrs ago... haha... It's all good though for sure!

Thanks for clarifying the aileron anomaly we were seeing. One of the coolest things about the Stiks is they come in all shapes and sizes, and builders can do so many things with them, it's never ending.

Hoping to see a finished plane, and possibly a flight video and report sometime... but have fun and keep working on it when you can.

Here is another one where the guy converted the one piece wing. As you can see he has 2 tubes. Note the ailerons...…………

Haha... I only mentioned the manual because of the title of the thread you posted above. Did you read that title?...

It's all good... carry on.
