Little teaser with my servo setup. I was looking forward to flying this week but weather is in the 50's all week!!! What the heck?!?!?
Flaps on an aerobatic plane are really fun to play with:

Why is there split ailerons, what do they do?

As shown in the video they allow you a few things, plus there is a couple not so obvious reasons:
1 - You can use flaps / crow / etc. 2 - You can use just outer ailerons for even more precision if that's your thing. 3 - If a servo should fail, the remaining servo will not be effected in any way. 4 - Servo balancing is very worrisome to some people and this takes all the worry out of it so you should still balance but they don't need to be as critical. 5 - Aileron flex from a larger built up surface is minimized and the ailerons become more effective. There is also a small mah savings because some servos will center slightly different when warm. When I was testing this with two identical planes with and without split I noticed about a 200mah difference over 4 hard flights. |

Will they be selling a non-split aileron version?

There is no reason to. Herve did not have time to do any fancy mixing or anything and flew his as a single aileron all week. You don't even notice the difference unless you want to play with the options that are available with it.
Even if you don't, you still get the benefits I outlined so not sure why you would want it without? |

Single servos on each side is the only thing that comes to mind.

Got 20 flights on mine now. Wx permitting, I'll get video of a dude who can actually fly, wringing it out this Saturday. My flying is kinda boring, so I don't usually even bother with the video.
