The Hobby People Wild Wing thread

Well my fellow Fyling Giants, I think it's time to start a thread on the Hobby People Wild Wing. Yeah I know it's a discontinued item, but I know there's a lot of you out there who still have one.

My WW has had some mods to it, to get a better CG. The TE of the wing where the motor would mount has been cut back about 2", and the motor has been CA'd onto the TE with 2 chuncks of EPP glued ontop and bottom to get a strong and durable motor mount.

Also, the proper CG on this baby is about 7 1/2" back from the nose, not the 8 1/2" the manual suggests.

Also, I have mine setup as follows:

KMS KBM31/21 1250Kv outrunner
APC 5.25x4.75 prop
Castle Creations Thunderbird 18 ESC
Thunder Power 1320 mah 3 cell lipo
Hitec HS65HB's
Berg 4L reciever
AUW 14.7oz.

This setup yields a very sporty wing, that will cut through 20mph winds easily, and glides incredibly well.I'd say about 70mph level flight, and I can run WOT the entire flight and have a cool power system afterwards.

If I can borrow an HD cam, I will put up a video.

Re: The Hobby People Wild Wing thread

I have had at least 3 of these and still have one I need to build, I am a huge fan of the WW and a bunch of us would fly like a dozen of these and it sounds like a screaming swarm of bees .

We had a local cop that flys with us, radar our wings on a down line, at 89 MPH. not to bad...

I will post pics when I build the new one!!!!

Oh yea...I was running this combo

Warp 4 4turn
Phoenix 25
APC 6 x 5.5
JR610m receiver
TP 2100 3cell
AWG was around 16oz

Re: The Hobby People Wild Wing thread

Huh, 16oz. with a 2100 pack, eh? I need to cut out the battery tray a bit more to fit my 2100 pack in. Should balance out perfectly after I remove the 1.6oz. of weight up front, and with my slightly heavier (but more powerful) motor, that'll hopefully come in the mail today

And how can you use a soldering iron to cut out the battery tray, cleanly? I tried winding some wire up, and sticking it onto the tip, but I think the wire was too thick. Any ideas?

Xpress, i used a dremel and rasp bit to ream out the foam to fit the 2100. I also put it as far forward as possible and cut a slot across the top of the original one. Hope this makes sense... I think with the heavier motor I needed it as forward as I could get it without adding any unneeded weight..

Cam, HP is/was a large hobby retailer in So Cal and Las Vegas area. They recently announced the closure of all stores and ceasing operations, after the death of the founder. They have been a legitimate retailer but I am not sure I would risk my money with their operations in chaos.

yes, yes, and yes, .... plus they were the North American distributor for Airtronics products (sadly the parent company of Airtronics, Sanwa, has decided to no longer sell their wares in the North American market) along with many other products RC related......sorrily the owner passed away and the family has decided to close as soon as the current items in stock are sold.

Rumor has it they're just going to blow everything out of their warehouse and then they're done.

They were the first hobby shop I walked into, the store in El Cajon, lot of fond memories with stuff I've bought from them over the years. I still have my Wild Wing in the original post

Desoto racing AKA serpent RC has taken over Airtronics products in the USA, the products will now only carry the Sanwa name but they are still available .
