Ya it was very unexpected and on a brand new engine, anyone up there still flying IMAC ?
There used to be a fair number of pilots up there doing that.

I haven't been to an IMAC contest for awhile but the last one I competed at I took some worthy advice from a couple of fellow competitors prior to the competition and quit using that practice which proved to not be safe. After incorporating a new procedure for restraint I watched a very nasty video and started incorporating another safety practice then after reading another post I incorporated another safety practice......my point is safety has no boundaries and I can always buy another prop but CANNOT replace missing fingers or repair Tendons on myself or injuries to the pilots next to me on the flight line so a couple of concrete anchors with tubes for fiberglass padded rods(Wings) and a couple of 5lb. weights with a rope (tail) and a paint roller(hands)to contain this beast are worth the effort at my field. You can throw out all the proverbial #### you want but it won't fix what damage a prop can do when the unexpected happens. I'm sure there are those out there that would differ an opinion and I'm NOT saying this is the GOLDEN RULE.

Just my opinion

I use RCS simply because I care to minimize my exposure to getting hurt. I used to use a glove, never got bit, but it would only take one. When I look at the RCS I see many scars and wonder if that were me so until something better comes along this is a pretty good solution.

I also use a Safe-T starting restraint when starting my plane without any issue. I ensure nobody is to either side of prop or in front but me and once started I move to the rear.

Yup.......it's when something DOES/NOT work as advertised, that the shi!! hits the fan!......

I would gladly suffer a chipped prop than even a 0.0001% chance of a lost hand, arm, etc. I use a leather glove PLUS a large chicken stick, with a well secured aircraft. I've not had any props get damaged....perhaps I've been lucky.

I own a yellow-handled RCS. It's a backup now, as I'm more often using an old $10 Davis Diesel Start-R-Stick. I find the handle slightly more comfortable to use. While the RCS is very good, I haven't really noticed the difference that the Start-R-Stick doesn't "roll" of my prop. Probably my poor technique! However, both work fine for me. And no, I'm not selling my RCS. If I ever lose one, I need a backup.

So true! I have yet to have a DA engine bite me but since trying other brands, I've had more than one nasty start up. But any engine can get you. I nearly lost my fingers a few years ago when I inadvertently must have brushed full throttle on start up. Not the engines fault but a starting stick would have saved me a lot of the misery.
Bottom line, most any type of stick is always a great idea.

Another great thing about the RCS is if for some reason a plane was to come at you after a start up for what ever reason you have the stick it your hand that you could put into the prop to stop the prop from striking you. Just another tid bit for thought.
I have really enjoyed my RCS and I like others would take a broken or chipped prop over hand or body damage any day. My hands have made a very good living for me and my family and I wouldnt want the hobby that I love to cause undo stress to them.

I am working on getting them (possibly) back into production. All I can say right at this point is to keep an eye on the website for any updates.

If its between an electric starter and propping by hand, I'd go with the starter. Can always resell it when the RCS comes back on the market...
