Re: Full scale pilots... when did you solo/graduate
I soloed at 3.7 hours at age 18 and passed my check ride and oral for my Private Pilot Land ticket at 43 hours in June 2008 right after my 19th birthday. I would say that different people have different skill levels and learning curves, and it is still possible for an instructor to deem you safe in 40 hours or just over.

Re: Full scale pilots... when did you solo/graduate
I had :45 minutes at solo, and 150 when I finished my private. Went back and looked it up.
I lived in Western Kansas, and had access to Dad's Stinson 108 every day after school, two blocks away. I flew the dog out of that airplane everyday the weather was nice. I had to wait around for my 17th birthday to take my private checkride. Having access to a prepaid plane is priceless when it comes to building time. Now, obviously I'd flown more than forty-five minutes. I've been flying since I was born. Moved into the left seat alone when I was 11. My dad was not a CFI, so I really don't have hard numbers on how many hours I manipulated the controls. We looked over his logbook one time and estimated around 600+. When I turned 16, I went up with the instructor for the first time for the forty-five minutes, then I kicked him out. |
