woodendesk Registered User United States, PA, Delta Joined Sep 2015 70 Posts	Discussion Ultra Sport 60 I refurbished GREAT PLANES ULTRASPORT 60 I bought this at Lebanon Swap meet in 2014. After using realfight 6, I wanted one. Found one at Lebanon for 150.00. New unused Servos (5) for 10.00 each! I cleaned the plane up when I got home to assess the condition of the skin. I then wrote my list of steps I was going to take to bring the plane back to like new standards. I rebuilt the motor, Didnt really need it, but I like to make sure. Put in a new Long glow plug and it ran like a champ. I painted the prop so it could be seen easier, I don't like missing fingers... I de-skinned the wing and replaced the aging skin with new Solartex Red. I must say its pricey but is very forgiving and super easy to work with, worth the price if you ask me. I finally got the Ultrasport to run and look as new as it should. this was my first attempt at a refurb, thank goodness for years of building experience. Motor, skin, prop, wheels all re done. I added a sliver pinstripe to the edge of the white on the wings, elevator, fuselage to give the Ultrasport even more character. Views: 313 Views: 430 The day I brought the Ultrasport back from Lebanon PA swap meet. got 5 new servos for 50.00 as well, see piled on the ground!!! Views: 318 Views: 435 This is what the fuselage looked like the day I got the Ultrasport. Notice the dullness of the motor, acetone, scuff pad and a final 0000 steel wool does the trick exterior wise to brighten the motor up. Views: 312 Views: 439 Captured while flying the Ultra Sport. Awaited more supply in order to cover the elevator and rudder. Engine was re-installed and plumbed, ran and removed and recleaned exterior wise. Reinstalled and mineral oil added into the carb and covered. Views: 383 It looked much more sleek after the recover. Re-polished the canopy and waxed it. Views: 399 I cant get enough of this plane. The Rudder and Elevator was covered here. Lined the white with Silver pinstriping. Views: 373 Spreading the Ultracote white to the tail here. it looks even better in the air. Views: 412 Here is the Ultrasport with the old wing covering believed to be very old solartex, not a tear in it, solid, but the color choice I didn't like. Working the new prop in: balanced and the edges of the new prop. The gear set up from 2-56 to 4-40 set up Views: 384 On the gear and red, she was starting to look good. Views: 397 glow plug was slow close to the prop when I bought it, had a friend cut himself trying to start it. So I added a glow plug relocation ignition unit. now no more prop strikes to fingers. :) Views: 409 pulled the motor, refurbed it and cleaned the motor bay. Views: 382 getting mostly red... Views: 385 re shaped the wing edge to a NACA 11 airfoil style for a greater ability for rolls.. Views: 393 A photo shot from the tail. Views: 377 Re skinned for the most part....Solartex is a great product, cant speak highly enough about it. Views: 372 Look at all those ribs..still in good shape. Views: 388 After tearing the silver skin off and gently sanding the wings. I pulled everything out of the airframe that I could, cleaned it it, sealed it. Then replaced fuel lines, screws, rods, servos. Views: 387 re-did the gear assembly covers to fit better. It truly did need it. Views: 386 You can see the wheel well was a bit of a mess, I did fix that to have ABS custom insert to clean up the look and add stability. Views: 382 After finishing the gear assembly covers. much cleaner appearance and quality. Views: 399 Closer look at the gear assembly cover. The original had alot of gaps and was a cheap plastic. Views: 389 Fresh covering using Solartex, first time using it too. I highly recommend it, its durable, forgiving and tough, you definitely get a great product for what you pay for!! I added a center wing decal to identify settings for the OS 61.
