Question
DA 120 dies on transition

Brand new DA120
  • Started right up, let idle for 1 minute by timer, advanced throttle slowly and she has great top end
  • Back to idle and then give throttle quickly and it dies
  • Opened the low end about 1/2 turn (creeped up on it) still does that
  • If it has a very high idle/midrange and I gun the throttle it is fine
  • Low throttle to high dies every time

There is a ton of "play" in the prop, I can rock it back and forth and it kind of clicks, I have two other DA120's and they don't do this

Hoping Wood is Good or DA TECH might get on this weekend to shed some light.

Haven't checked that yet Brian... I will this weekend. A buddy wanted me to keep the plugs where they are to check on them so he will do that Sunday I think.

Try leaning the top end some. My 200 was doing the same thing and I kept messing with the low end,no change, leaned the high and no problems now.

I will try that. What about the fact that it has play and rocks back and forth? And clicks....?

May be your JR connector of the ignition to the sensor is not connected correctly. Please check the polarity. It will work on reverse but will not go over 4000 rpm.

I actually think it was a combo of bad throttle servo geometry coming all in at once and the prop must have been loose, because it had some play in it that it did not have today. I ran it with the cowl off--that should not make a difference would it?

Not really. Unless the pressure differential on the carb diaphragm vent is effected by wind pressure. I doubt it though- flew a 120 in an open Yak cowl without issues.
