Hi guys if you have a cub with flaps you definately don't need spoilers!

why would anyone need spoilers on a cub... learn how to fly it.. it doesnt need it. more so with a flaped cub,, how much slower are wanting to go anti gravity!

I tow with a BH 1/2 cub with a 3W 170CS with a biela 33x12. I like it a lot, and it can tow everything. Heaviest I've towed weighed more than 30 kgs (66 punds or so).

The cub can come in really steep and lands in a very small space if you side slip it. Looks way cooler than flaps;-)

More pics and a vid. A 3rd scale, 6 meter ventus look rather small behind the cub.

WOW!!! Awesome! You could almost tug up a full scale with that beast! I bet a person looks small beside that Cub. Nice input to the thread.

I guess since this is my only almost to be tug, this will be my favorite tug? I sure hope so! Anyway, my kit has finally become an ARF and is really progressing quickly now.

This is the Dynaflight Decathlon. I have made a few mods, the most obvious is I have added flaps.

I have a H9 .40 size Cub with a Saito .72 on it. Do you think it would be enough to tow my Spirit 100" glider? If so, where do you attach the tow line on the tow plane? I've always wanted to try a tow, but never had the opportunity. Thanks!

I am using (once so far) Model Tech 1/3 J3 Cub, DA-50, tows my 4.8m DG600 in a very scale like manner, not an overpowered climb and release.

Should be fine. The tow line should attach to the tug just behind the trailing edge of the wing.

Ok, thanks. Is that on the top of the fuse or the bottom for the attachment to the tug?

Did you build your Spirit with ailerons? It can be extremely difficult to get a glider off the ground without ailerons. The bottom line is the glider pilot is supposed to just keep the glider level. The tug pulls it where it is to go and up as well. It could be really hit or miss on keeping the Spirit level without ailerons.

Absolutely the top. If it were on the bottom, when the glider goes up, it would lift the tail of the tug sending it into a dive.

The glider needs the release on the nose not in the standard hi-start or bungee launch location.

Both models should have a release for the tow line, which should be around 100 feet long. It's hard to actually watch both models at the same time, so both pilots need to be able to release. Furthermore, the glider obviously needs a release, but the tug should have a release so that it can do a fly over to drop the tug line before landing. In some locations it would be easy to snag the line on approach... bushes, weeds, trees, fences.... unless you have a huge perfectly manicured field!

Either way, it's better to be able to cut and run if needed from either pilot's perspective.
