Could this be the first one capable of pulling out of a hover?

www.turbinetoucan.com

Looks like QuiQue's involved as well:

Can't wait to hear how the test flight goes.

Hasn't been flown yet. FAA just signed off on it on Monday.

=====================
FAA ISSUES AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE FOR TURBINE TOUCAN
Monday, April 2, 2007, 10:36 PM
Today is a VERY big day for the team at Infinity Entertainment. We've hit another big milestone with the issuing of the airworthiness certificate. This now officially clears the way for first flight. As of today, the aircraft is being disassembled and readied for trucking to Hollister California this Thursday. The aircraft will then be reassembled the following week. At the completion of the assembly, we'll be ready for first flight, which could happen as early as ten days from today's date!

We are extremely pleased with the continued progress; we continue to hit milestones on schedule with minimal delays.

Awesome!!!
I remember seeing the turbo raven at a show years back. Watching it hover was unforgetable. I can't wait to see this thing in the air!!

So who is going to produce an rc version?

Awesome! It sounds like they tackled the issue of keeping oil in the gearbox. "The Turbine Toucan?s powerplant employs a proprietary oil delivery system for prolonged vertical flight."

Re: 3D capable full scale..???

looks just like a biplane turbo raven to me.....in other words, AWESOME!

im pretty certain the turbo raven can pull out of the hover, so this wont be the first, and ive seen loads of full size do "3D" (walls, rolling harriers, harriers, inverted harriers), but this one does look a lot lot nicer than the rest ive seen, maybe as it has two wings two wings do look good yes

Re: 3D capable full scale..???

I believe the Turbo Raven had the power to do so, but due to the gear case oil issue, Wayne never tried it. I could be wrong though.

On the Toucan web site they say it's the first biplane to hover, but I believe the Kinball's Pitts Python did that a few months ago. Though it didn't pull out vertically it did hovered without loss of altitude none-the-less.
