Engine selection

Morning All,

I have a new Great Planes Ultra Stick, I am trying to decide on my engine selection.

Instructions call for the following:

OS 1.60 FX or Fuji BT-32 S gas engine.

I am leaning towards a DLE 25cc or OS GT 22cc engine. Would these engines be a suitable alternative? I am not looking for outrageous performance, just something I can make the jump form .40 size to giant scale.

Wing span is 80"

Thanks
Ken

DLE does not make a 25cc but do have a 20, 30, and a 35RA. If it were me I would go with the 35RA, better to have a little extra and not need it than the other way around.

+1 to Ace’s comments above. My choice would be something in the 30 - 35 range and the DLE35 is a good one. Add to that the stik type planes often tend to be tail heavy so smaller engines would probably require additional nose weight.

Also look at the EME 35, I have one and its ultra reliable and a little more power than the DLE 35

Great Planes didn't make the Ultra-Stick, but they did make the Big Stik. The Ultra-Stick is a Hangar9 plane.

Since you're instructs call for an OS or Fuji, it might be safe to say you have a Big Stik, since GreatPlanes endorsed those engines, whereas Hangar9 endorses Evolutions.... All this is just an observation though, no big deal... but when you're looking for info on it, you might want to clarify whichever plane it is. In this case the Ultra and Big are probably very similar.

So... with that said, I agree with the others, the 35 would seem well suited to the Big Stik, and they're reasonable in price, and apparently easy to get these days.

Good luck with it. It's a great start to larger planes.

I forgot about the EME 35. Good engine and it runs a bit smoother than the DLE. I have not found the EME more powerful than the DLE though. I have (2) DLE 35 and (1) EME. Lots of good choices in this size range.

I’d agree with a DLE 35. A DA 35 would be a great choice too. I love my VVRC 40 twin and that or the DLE 40 twin would also be good choices.
