Yeah very nice, Does the 180 sound the same in persons Adrian? I notice the 210 has a larger exhaust ring over the 180 - so assume a sound change?

210 Sounds awesome.

UMS designed & built Black Star branded 5-250v3

Short vid showing Black Star which is Tomahawk Aviation (Germany) branded UMS radial (virtually identical if not the same as the UMS 5-260).

Happy to share engine gets better every flight! Currently collecting & triaging telemetry data from PowerBox CORE - Max RPM during this flight was 4630 turning SEP 32x14 Wilga prop.

Engine starts easy, pulls strong and sounds fantastic!

I did not like the idea of having baffles at first, thought it would take away from the engine. But now that I installed them, I kinda like it!

Check out the lights too! Can't wait to do some dusk flying.

I was in West Palm last week to see Adrian. While in the CH shop had to stop and drool over the stock of UMS engines he has. A few were sold out but has dozens in stock ready to go. Adrian has some very interesting projects on the front burner that will be a game changer.

Are baffles really needed for a radial in a cowl? It's not like a boxer where the rear cyl are staved for cool air........I'm just wondering if it's really required.

Thoughts are appreciated!!!

Nice work on the baffles.

Hey Jim T.

I know diddly squat about radials. I've been greenlighted by the ball and chain for another plane once the Mustang is flying. I'm considering a 1/5th scale Corsair with a radial.

Based on your experience with radials, you think the UMS 55 cc would be strong enough?

With any engine I would imagine it depends on the shape of the cowl and space. But baffles are never a bad idea...for any air cooled engine regardless of cowl.

The better it's cooled, the happier it stays.

I saw your plane on Youtube, I just ordered the same plane and engine. Pretty excited as I hear the 7-90 is pretty reliable and runs cool. Have you flown it yet? Did the plane balance nicely with that engine in it? Did you add the baffles because you are having overheating issues?

I've been told the 7 cylinder configuration will run much cooler than the Saito radials. I have a Saito FG-60R3 and FG-19R3 and both of them I had to carefully baffle because they do get hot.

What did you use to make the baffles?
