Vinyl Cutters and software

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here is goes.

I have been looking at vinyl cutters and software and wondering if anyone has a knowledge on the US cutters.. Want something that gives a good cut but it's not like I need a heavy duty one that will be running all the time.

Also what is a good software program for design??

Thanks,

So you can cut Ultracote with it?? What version of Corel Draw do you use. I can get Corel Draw X4 for $40 which is a lot better then what the price of the current version is.

It sounds just like what I want. I have been having one of the big vinyl cutting guys cut my graphics for the past 12 yrs but I keep dropping $200 to $300 each year to a guy that dose not appreciate my business. So thinking I can make it pay for it self in a couple years and have the convince of having graphics when ever I want them

I use X4, but make sure you are buying the full version, it should be more like $325 for a real copy of the full version. The upgrades are about 1/3 or less. You can set the pressure down for Ultracote so that it does not cut through the backer.

I've been using a US Cutter vinyl cutter for a couple of years now. It's worked well for me cutting vinyl, I haven't tried Ultracote or Monokote on it. US Cutter has a forum where you may learn a little more about the specific cutter you're interested in, some of the cutters can be hit or miss whether you get a good one or not. As far as software, I'm using Adobe illustrator for the designs and Signcut pro or Flexi for cutting. A lower cost (0$) way to get started is to use Inkscape for design and Signblazer for cutting. I also would recommend saving a little money by not getting a larger cutter, a 24" will handle any graphics you'll run into for a model, and it will take up a lot less floor space.

I use VE LXi Master plus 8.0 v3, it does the job but kind of generic.

I've got the Copam 24" that i've been using for many many years. I cannot remember off hand what year I bought it. It was way before US cutters had them. It was cheaper priced when I bought it also.

It has been a great machine. Th only thing I have replaced on it since new are blades.

I am using Flexi-sign 7.02

Terry, Does that mean that you cannot use the us cutter from Coreldraw like a printer?
You always have to save it down and print from the software that drives the cutter???
I have an old roland camm1 that I can cut right from Coreldraw. I was thinking of replacing it with the 24" US Cutter as the roland can only cut 18".
Thanks,
Steve

My wife has one called a Cricket sold at hobby lobby for like 250- it cuts vinyl, monkote as well as stickers, ultra coat. And it’s the perfect size.

This is a very very old post but i just now seeing it, I have a SC2 Cutter from uscutter.com used Sure cuts a lot at first really liked it but my cutter came with Vinylmaster and I learned to use it and only use it now. My cutter will cut up to 24 inches wide by as long as you would like. Think i paid around $350 for mine. they sell on the site, amazon, and ebay sometimes ebay store is cheaper or offer free shipping I will have mine a year in Feb I mostly do decals for cars and make t shirts i have a heat press. I love it for making AMA numbers for my planes and such things.
I started a business doing it but so many to compete with on facebook and all i kinda closed up i just do things for myself and friends.

Same here, I use it for personal use and doing stuff for my friends, it paid for itself which is what I was after but trying to sell vinyl is pointless and its hard to compete if you don't have a vinyl printer these days

My wife just got one of those too. Is there a repository for model airplane files somewhere?
