Re: USRA - GIANT-SCALE RACING PHOTO BARRAGE

But really the most important part of any good team is GOOD PEOPLE. And the reason the Demons weren't under their tent is because they were out in force getting all their motors tuned for the next heat. In the first image, they are looking over Mark Zeal's Polecat while Scott Hanbury's GR-7 (actually, that's Mark's too, but Scott borrowed it for this race!) waits it's turn.

The second pic shows (from L to R) Mark, Kenny Mac, and Scott doing some tunin'. And then Jake Hanbury pushes his cool flamed Polecat back to the pits after they poured another can of whoop-a$$ into it, too. 14 year old Jake is a gentleman and a fierce competitor who finshed the event with the Silver Trophy. Awesome!

Here's another great team that came together to campaign the awesome AR-6: (L-R) Ed Rankin (designer/builder), Keith Keoppel (caller), Fred Sattler (pilot/setup), and Dick Rankin (crew/wrench). You can see Dick getting it ready between heats in the second photo.

Re: USRA - GIANT-SCALE RACING PHOTO BARRAGE

Of course, we can't forget my team: "Potential Flow Racing". At this race, we started out with Joe Rafalowski (Georgia) and myself (where are you, Larry Lewis?). But we were fortunate to be joined by some of our fellow RDRC members (Raleigh, NC) who lent a hand. Here you see (L to R) Drake Edwards, Bill Fillmore, Dane Edwards, me, and Joe proudly standing with Joe's Polecat. I'll bet there's some GS air racers in the future for these guys!

You can tell by Joe's expression in the second photo that "Team Po-Flo" had a trick up their sleeve for this race. All I can say about the third photo is "that was easy!". You have seen the commercial, haven't you?

Re: USRA - GIANT-SCALE RACING PHOTO BARRAGE

And the last team that I will mention here is the awesome "MARCS" club who put on the North Coast Challenge for what I believe is the seventh year. It takes alot of hard work to do this and requires many volunteers to do all the necessary jobs. I don't have pictures of all of them and certainly don't know names so I will just thank CD Tony Husak in the yellow here and club member (and USRA race regular to his right) Chris Justus on behalf of the whole group. Thanks for one awesome event!

Re: USRA - GIANT-SCALE RACING PHOTO BARRAGE

Correction to the prizes as well as I can remember.

The 4 GT-80 engines went to:
CG for winning the GT Gold
Mikey Mac for winning the F1 Gold
Dean Cranston from a drawing of all the Biplane pilots so you didn't have to win to get the engine.
Also I got $100 for first BP and Big Dog got $50 for second so the third place guy got all the high value goodies.
Since we didn't have a Dominator class which usually can win a GT-80. There was a general raffel for the 4th engine among all competing pilots. The winner of the 4th engine and the guy who lost two racers and Unlimited (Dumb thumbs)and F1 from a midair with K Mac and also big race$$$$$ supporter Tom Easterday.

Robert great write up. How about some of you 3D guys? Want to get into this?

As a note the GP Christen Eagle ARF can be flown in the BP class as a Pitts. It is more competitive with replaced foam balsa wings. Foam cores are available.

Guys,

You really need to see this stuff in person to get the full effect. That was Sleepy's impression too since he saw and heard it......photos don't document the sound and the sheer speed!

So come on out to the next race in Parker, AZ on Oct. 26-29. This one is held at the Avi Suquilla Airport in Parker and the HQ hotel is the "Blue Water Resort & Casino". There's a big purse and the points champions will be determined so it's going to be a great one! Don't miss it!

You can find all the details about this race and all USRA stuff on their site at www.usrainfo.org.

Guys, Amazing report on the race. Robert V and Sleepy C, your doing a fantastic job letting folks know about GS racing. Keep up the great work.

To all of you guys out there who are interested, curious or even if your dont know your interested yet, you have got to check out GS racing! It is the most fun I have had in a long time and the people involved are tops!
I really cant describe the thrill of diving down to start a race. It is amazing!!!! 3D guys, remember the thrill you had the very first time you hovered or T rolled down to the ground? Its better! And it is the same each and every race!!

If you have a chance, come to Parker and check it out! I bet you'll get hooked! I am!

Re: USRA - GIANT-SCALE RACING PHOTO BARRAGE

Hey Sparky, Not that it matters, but neither F1 nor Unlimited winners won a GT 80. I dont remember where the 4th one went, but it wasnt to the winner of F1. Just as it should be IMHO. Seems the engines should go to folks that can use them to get into or keep doing GT, i.e grow the sport.
