I believe a few discussions on here or RCG have talked about the fact that esc's are abused more by partial throttle than WOT. The esc needs to dissipate heat when it restricts current not when it is open to current flow. Running out of power during a routine cannot be the issue. All you would need is properly sized batteries. The quick turnaround between flights is definitely an issue at competitive events.

I don't have first hand knowledge... but I would bet that it was to prevent the packs from overheating.

At the 2 meter/FAI Pattern size model.... the electrics begin to really shine....a hacker C50-14XL or one of the A60 outrunners on a 5000 mah 10S have great efficiency as you can use a 22 inch prop.

Re: The real deal ------ Electric vs Gas...

Hey guys! I know this thread is two years old, but I thought I would post anyway. Dave Jones and I are business acquaintances , and he recently sold me his entire collection of Electric planes, batteries, and supplies. I am hoping to sell most of them off, and be able to keep a couple for my efforts. I will have an itemized list coming soon, but I know there are some Extra 330's, Yak's, and a big Kadet, along with many Lipo batteries. PM me if you are interested, and watch for the itemized list in the swap shop! Thanks

I like the noise from a gasser, And when i'm out flying i easely get 6-8 flights.
With batteries that would been way to expensive for me

not dissin' electric, but you cant argue with the sound of (most) gas....just the sound alone makes me want to mortgage my house...lol.

although, electric does have its advantages.

Well not many I know can afford that sound
none over here at all for that matter
I fly both
have 2 edge 540s EF ones
one with a Hacker Q80 & the other with a DLE55 bowman ring and a Zimmerman can
the Q80 has way way more power and is lighter than the other when its got a full tank
run 5000 12s packs and get 7mins flight time 5.40ish pushed really hard, they are zippy flight max so around $100 for the 2 packs
I have 8 flight packs and they are now about 4 years old and used in my trex 700 as well so get used most weekends so they have more than payed for them selves
only ever charge at 1c and really try not to go below 20%
I would say its not as cheap as petrol but not far off
I use a Honda 2kv generator and I have 4 1000w Hyperion 0720I Duo 3 LiPo Chargers. its more the lugging around of all that stuff to fly that is the killer as with a petrol its a fuel can that's it lol
love both and over here in the UK where noise is a big issue the electric wins as just prop noise to listen to
and to be fair its rather nice to listen to and the airframe rather than a single cylinder motor
just my view

And that sound is why any of my scale builds will now have a Valach four stroke in them.
