I have been reading this thread for four hours last night and this morning.
Many great tips here and thank you all so much for sharing. Fixed wing...you my friend are a awesome builder Now the big question is...can I make a extra 300 special with a 140" ws and 132"fuse length under 45 lbs with a four cylinder? |

Absolutely, you can do a 140" 300 Special under 45 pounds. IMO, a DA200L would be a good option for both weight considerations and power. I know you have talked to and followed some of Bob's (Sensei) giant/hyper light builds along with some of the ideas in this thread. Given your own giant building experience (masterful I must say) there's no doubt this project will be a total success. BTW, I've flown some of Bob's 50+ percenters that had a DA200 and they flew really well. |

I'm no master but very determind when I make up my mind. Under 45 would be phenomenal |

Hello Dean, I have a question for you...
I am stuck on this step, as I am trying to conceptualize what I need to do. In the front of F2, do I need anything here, , meaning, does the front edge of the foam get installed flush with F2, and if so, where will the cowl ring get fixed in the bottom area? Near to the foam of the belly pan? |

Not Dean but I can help. Just finished that step. Study the side view drawing carefully...There is a block of basswood 1/4x 3/8 lying flush with the top of f-2 horizontally. This is where the bottom of the top cowl ring attaches. Then a 1/4'' balsa block goes from the bottom of the basswood to the bottom of the foam tying it all together nicely. Hope this is clear if not I would be happy to txt you a pic. Good Luck!! John

Hi John, thank you. This is where I am at...
this piece of basswood that you are referring to, is it in the kit? |

I mount my cowl's a bit different than how Dennis's instructions show. Please reference post #1413 of this thread to see pictures and hopefully it will make sense. https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...l+ring&page=95 Dean |

Hi John, thank you so much. I was only placing that cowl ring segment on the fuselage to give me perspective.
I went back to the plans, and now I understand. In front of F2, there is a 1/4" thick balsa that is to be glued on there. As per Dean's build, I am filling this area with plywood and balsa, so that it cannot get crushed if it were balsa only. once the hardwood cures, then I will glue on the balsa. Yep, that part was tricky.
But now I understand it thank you so much. Cam |
