My lil Ani has been helping. The 70mm drop headers will be a perfect fit.

If I stare at this long enough, I may actually go nuts. With the servo in this position, it will allow a flush cover. Not going to use the provided plastic covers. May just mix some glue.

The flush cover is a great idea. And that's how I'm planning mine too. But I want to be able to service my servos if ever needed.

Copy that, and I would hate to have to cut one out. Guess I will sleep on this one for a while longer.

Guys, FYI from my thread on the Ultimate, I used the grey double sided sticky tape to mount the aileron servos in and they seem to be holding up very good. The Krill pics show the white double sided tape but I felt the grey stuff gave a lower mount and had a better stick.
The servo surround is epoxied in place, the servo itself is held within that surround by the tape. I put the rubber servo ear mount pieces on each servo for a more snug fit in the surround.
I also used the plastic servo covers and held them in place with a little Welders contact glue and then used 1/4" wide striping tape around the edges.
I replaced the landing gear bolts with 5mm socket head screws as the Phillips head screws were too cheesy. I attached the landing gear skirts with the same grey double sided tape as the aileron servos and kept the back edge closed with some color matched (black) tape.
The landing gear legs do have a bit of give to them but I've had no problem with them to date. All of my flights have been with pants on and off a grass field

But just can not commit to it yet. Was thinking about servo frames as used with sailplane wings, and did see someone who used the included servo frame, with 3m tape holding the servo in. needless to say, I aint no way using 3m tape.
If something can go wrong it will.

Not sure what your other options are but gluing a servo is the surest way that I know it is going to fail at one point. Not because of the glue but because it will be hell to take out and you will regret you did it.

Everytime I did something permanent on a plane, it ended up needing to be replaced or changed.

DA120 With Standoffs - Not A Good Idea

Hey Swatin Flys ,
Nice looking plane and build.

One MAJOR thing i've noticed that I feel strongly and advising against, is using DA120 on this plane with regular standoffs (From what I see in your pictures they are at least 1.5").

Using standoff with 120CC engines (such as DA120 and GP123) is a very bad idea since these engines are very powerful and shake to the point they can break the standoffs in air.
I've stopped using standoffs in my 60CC and above engines, even in my DA60 (also DA recommends this).

Please fully read this short thread and you'll see examples and understand the problem:
https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...ad.php?t=70742

The last post there is mine and how I mounted my GP123 on My Krill Yak55 33%.

Good Luck!
Guy.

Good job Guy for pointing that out, and good eye. The standoffs do not break, or at least, I have never seen that happen. The point of failure is the aluminum tab on the back of the motor. The back of the motor has 4 mounting tabs, and the thickness of this, is what causes the failure. IF it was double the thickness, it would probably not be a problem, but in order to keep things lighter, I believe there is less mass there, for that reason. Yes, DA recommends against using standoffs for that motor. You can also purchase a Blazing Star Mount for a DA 120. (I have one for my 120, but currently in use of course).

Why not glue the aileron servo in with Shoe-Goo/E6000? I've done that in the RC Car world on 1/8 scale racers. Those servos are not moving unless you pry them up.

The other option is to make a plate and mount the servo to the plate (cover to the square hole) instead. Many jets do this.

Gives the options to remove them if there is ever a problem with the servo also

I'd never perm glue the servos in. You know as soon as you do that, they will need to be replaced/fixed

Two +1 here:

Blazing Star mounts - used one for the DA70 on my Mamba, never using standoffs again!!

E6000 - I've been using GOOP for years, but wanted something that held as well but flowed a bit more. E6000 is exactly that. It will self level unlike GOOP. If I want the glue to stay where I put it I use GOOP. If I want it to flow a bit like epoxy, then E6000 is the ticket. BTW - E6000 is made by the same people who make GOOP. But either way, once this stuff cures it is not going anywhere. And yet you can remove whatever you glued in a get the residual adhesive off easily. Great stuff.

Pipe mount installed. The lower wing bolts will be a little trying to get to when hot. The exits will be aft of the bulkhead and some minor work will be needed on the bulkhead for clearance. I have the rudder/radio tray cut and drilled. Need to get some hard wood for support underneath.
