AW 50cc Edge crashed

Dunno what caused this crash. Took off, I pulled to the vertical. Then rolled canopy towards me. I heard engine RPM drop, so I pushed to get the nose down. Plane leveled out at approx 150', and was flying away from me. I declared I had a problem and entered the pattern to land (a left downwind). Regained engine control. Plane then started a slight right turn and RPM dropped once again.

I say RPM dropped because I could not tell if it went to idle (failsafe setting) or was cutting out (opto-kill). Plane continued on in the slight right bank descending slowly, until it met earth. I had absolutely no control from the onset of the bank to the ground.

Equipment
XP9303 with DM9 Module
AR7000 RX
MPI HD Switches on main battery and ignition battery
HS7955TG on Ail (1 each), Ele (1 each), and Rudder
HS625MG on Throttle
RX Batt 6v 3000mah (Fully charged before flight)
Ignition Batt 4.8v 2000mah (Fully charged before flight)
42% Products Opto-Kill
DLE-55

All electronics and motor survived. Have not range tested anything yet. Plan on doing so tomorrow.

If I have missed anything let me know.

Here is all that was left.

Wow, that is really sad. Did you test the battery after the crash to make sure it wasn't a defective battery?

Stuff like this really makes me wonder if there is some kind of DSM2 bug out there that has nothing to do with interference. <---- i know thats asking for a flame

Two words "Redundant Batteries". Well worth the extra few ounces when you get into bigger planes.

Battery checked out ok. I did just read a service bulletin on the module possibly being loose in the transmitter. Dunno if that could cause any problems. Horizon has a replacement program for a case that fits better.

Dual batteries would have been smart. Considered it, but you know what they say about hindsight!!

I bought my wife a used 9303 with DSM module, and got the module replaced right away.....the new ones do fit much better. Once you go dual batteries you will never go back though......particularly with NiMh's, never know when their time is up.

Just range tested the parts from the Edge and my TRex 600. Both failed at 30 paces with the bind button pressed. With the bind button down, I was able to make the Edge fail down to about 9-10 paces away. Looks like it may be a problem with the module, and maybe the RX to the Edge.

I have the older module on my 9303 and if it is loose in the socket it will loose bind with the plane. I ended up putting duct tape on the top of the module to make it tighter in the socket. I will be getting a hold of Horizon to get the updated case.

Horizon is having me send in the TX and module to test it out. Make sure they are putting out the correct power etc. Hope to get it back soon!

SOrry about the loss.
Truly sucks to lose such a fine AW bird to a link loss

I bet if you sent an email to Rocco, he'd send you some love in the form of a discount.
Worth a shot.
