Great concept, convinced, bought one. Tried using it early today on a balky 60cc with 24x9 Falcon wood. It wore a shallow crescent in the trailing edge of the prop. I had to stop and went back to gloved hand.

The rubber is abrasive enough and acts like a sharpening belt for a shaving blade, which I saw my uncle used when I was a kid. I suggest looking into a different rubber compound.

Were you staying on the prop and rolling it like the video shows?
I have used it hundreds of times, as have others, and not once damaged the prop.
Is the roller rolling freely. A 60cc engine should not have enough resistance from the compression to make it damage the prop???

OK everyone…If you have purchased or are thinking about purchasing one of the ROLLING Chicken Sticks, I need to go over this with you.
The instructions that are on the packaging of the RCS state “…rolling the Chicken Stick completely along the length of the propeller all the way off the tip of the propeller. Do not pull or roll the Chicken Stick towards the front and off the edge of the propeller (view the instructional video on our web site)…Please practice the proper technique using this Chicken stick on your engine with the engine ignition turned off before attempting to start your engine.” This is also stated in the video.
When you get your RCS don’t be a stubborn head and just think you can just start flipping you prop without doing what the instructions say. You need to practice the right technique so the Starting Stick will work correctly for you. It takes a little conscious practice to keep the roller going in a straight line down the edge of the prop all the way off the tip of the prop. But this is the way you have to use the RCS. This is very important to do this correctly. After you practice a few times, look at the roller. If the marks on the roller vinyl are slanted towards the top and bottom of the roller then you are not keeping the roller straight going down the prop. The marks on the roller vinyl should be straight.
Post 167 troubles me in that he says “It wore a shallow crescent in the trailing edge of the prop” I am not sure what went on here but damaging a prop on a 60cc engine makes me wonder just what happened.
Here is post #46 from another FG Forum, (https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...=202454&page=4) in which this person states he is using the RCS on a “High high compression 3W 170 engine” with both Beila or wood props and “there is no damaging this prop with the RCS”.
One other statement he made is “I took the guys advice and practiced”.
One other thing I would like to mention… if you look at the end of the video where I spin the prop, notice how close I am to the end of the prop. I am only a few inches from the tip of the prop. Do not go in too deep with the RCS. When you hand flip a prop you usually take a pretty good bite on it by going in quite a bit but with the RCS you don’t want to do this.
Please take a little time and see where it feels right for you on your engine and prop…and please practice and get the technique down before you go to the field and start your engine.
I have been using the RCS now for close to a year and I have forcefully flipped the props on my two DLE-170’s more than 300 times and I have never seen any marks or anything on my props. I have used one RCS for all of the starts (to test the Stick as well as the props) and it is the one in the photo. Notice there are very few angled marks on the roller vinyl.
A final note, if for some reason taking the time to use the RCS correctly is not what you want to do then by all means stick with your glove or other preferred method.
I thank all of those that have purchased the RCS and please let me know if you are having any problems.

Now gentlemen…start your engines!

Richard

Hi Rich,

Do you know when you will have the grip style 3's ready to go? I would like to order 4 of them.

Thanks in advance. Great looking product.

Hi Keith,
I dont see that your order went thru. I looked on Pay Pal and dont see anything.
Did Pay Pal send you something saying they charged you?
You might try to order again and see what happens. I have other orders that went thru ok. Let me know and if you still have problems with it we can do just straight thru Pay Pal.
