I finished stripping the wings covering..... yeeeap

A little voice keeps echoing in back of my head.. "wow this thing hit hard..."

I guess I will be re-sheeting at least the left panel, and maybe the top half of the other. At this point, I will plan on resheeting both, and hope for the best.

I removed the sheeting to the bottom left panel real quick, just to get an idea, and figured I would post them while I was at it..
Yeah this is on the line of being worse than I thought.. but, still plenty fixable

Parts have arrived!

Well the box was battered a bit, and whats sad is I was expecting it to be

Well, I knew that most anything in there (within reason) could be repaired, if broke.. so I signed. Also, I wasnt going to have Tony recut everything just over a few possible broken pieces from neglectful postmen/women.

That asside, I just have to say outstanding job to Tony and his workers! Beyond my expectations on the packing job, and that untimatly saved everything from getting broke to pieces.. Only two wing spars got damaged.. and I think I can salvage them at that. Everything else is perfect

All laid out, looks like everything else did survive just fine, so just the broken spars. I can live with that

Thanks again to Tony, and his crew

what about, what about it?

If your wondering about progress (i assume) There is none just yet. I am in the sorting stage of the parts, it is a little overwhelming initially, since there is no parts listing showing what part is what. I dont mean bulkheads, but all the other small pieces. And my wrecked fuselage is not helping as a reference, since it is just a pile of sticks.

Not sure what progress I will achieve today with other things needing attending to, but I do hope to get something done enough to throw a few more pic's on here for you guys. At least over the weekend.

Also, this will not be rushed together. I do plan on taking some time to make it as strong as I can.

assessments

I have a club member friend that has a 50cc pilot Yak 54, that offered to let me take it home to use as a building reference So I wont do a whole lot until I get it here. With any luck, should be today or tomorrow.

The top deck piece actually starts back behind the turtle deck, so I had to work the remaining piece of the broken one out. I had the idea of splicing it into the existing one, but I just dont want to compromise this rebuild, if I can help it.

So I got it out, and the new one will slip up into its place nicely. So this is the starting point, and I did a neat enough job cleaning up the damage, that the new parts snap right in place as they should

Some wing prep

Some prep on the wing, while I wait for my buddies fuse.

Same method as before, just carefully chipping the glue away.

Since the main spars are really solid with the webbing, I will just splice the front's of the couple ribs in. The tip rib slips in place nice already.

The damage was a tossup on the existing leading edge, compared to the new ones from shipping.. and decided the new broken leading edges were better. I will re-enforce them somehow down the line.

Decided to just tear it down further so I wouldnt have to splice any ribs. The spar webbing wasnt too tough to remove after all. Now with a little care, the new ribs will slip right back in place

Okay, time to start putting pieces back together

I removed the webbing back one more bay to allow some flex of the main spars to slip the new ribs in easier. The new ribs have differenc lightning holes cut, otherwise they are a perfect fit.

Just a quick dry fit first, and everything seems to slip together just fine. I will have to go th the LHS to pickup some new sheeting once the wing is back together.

Okay, I have finally started putting some glue back on the thing

For now, I am just using thin CA glue (bob smith) to tack it all back together. Once I am satisfied, I will go over the gaps here and there with either some thick CA, or epoxy if I feel more strength is needed.

So the wing structure is back together, and I think its going well so far. I check the ribs for 90* to the spars, although each one slips into notch's in the trailing and leading edge spars. I just like to make sure.

Once ribs are in place, I pin the leading edge through each rib tip to hold its line while I drip the CA in.
Also, I hadnt mentioned the shim I placed at the root rib for the leading edge. The hot glue acted as a buffer/filler here, and since I am not using hot glue, I needed to shim it so the leading edge has no gap.

Thanks to my good friend, and fellow club member, I have a complete fuselage to look at and compare to while I assemble mine This will make things go a lot faster!

Thanks Frank!
