It's time to build another Competition Kit.

Last winter I built the prototype Radiowave Extra 300 builders kit, so now I’m starting one of the production Kits.

A few things have been updated from the prototype mostly for cosmetics and to make the kit even easier to build.

Here are a few photos of the first steps.

The motor box snaps together so the trick is to get a feel for how it goes together and apply the glue where needed.

I always have a fear of swapping the sides and getting the thrust in the wrong direction, so I fit and double check to make sure it has right thrust.

After gluing the motor box together I started joining the sides and placing the 3/8 longerons down each side. I used the former to align the doubler that connects the front and rear side.

I'm doing okay. I'll have this plane at Youth Masters next year and you can throw it around the sky for some fun.

I tried to work on other things as the glue dries, but still the fuse goes together very quick.

All you really need is a flat table to work off of because all of the tabbed parts square its self up.

Here is a photo of the motor box laid down on the top part of the frame.

Next I installed both of the treys for equipment. You have the option to use either trey or both as I did.
The trey holds the formers square and in place so it really helps the build move fast.

Next I put the sides in place with the back formers; glued and clamped I let it sit over night.

Just a few hours into the build and I have a frame that’s starting to look like an airplane.

What's taking so long

Jerry, you didn't tell me they were this easy to build!! I had just gotten past the desire to build a plane...and there you go cranking it back up.

With Jerry's and my son Kevin's help we have done lots of work on the design to make it a VERY EASY To BUILD KIT !!! Actually the standard joke has become it takes longer for the glue to dry than putting it together. Minimal piece count, all self aliging ( it almost be impossible to build it not straight) lite and strong. We have made the design very easy for the first time builder. We have not scarficed quality or performance to make it an easy build.

We do all the cutting in house in Mooresville, NC. USA on our CNC laser, CNC foam cutter and CNC router. ( I think Jerry has an attachment to the foam cutter, We've done some pretty neat stuff on that. ) Any replacement part can be had if needed very qiuckly.

What we had in mind is that now anybody can take one of our kits, build it easily.MAKE IT PERSONAL!! and go out and either compete or 3d or just tear up the sky

I got to see Jerry's plane yeaterday and it looks GREAT!!!

Okay, More updates and pictures.
I flipped the frame over and bolted in the landing gear mount. It is an angle aluminum part that bolts to the sides of the motor box.

I also put all of the stringers in place while it was upside down.

I added a 1/4 plywood base under the aluminum angle just so I could use blind nuts to hole the landing gear.

So while the glue dries I laid out the wing.
Hey Al- If they made a wood glue like tight bond, but dried like CA it would go faster.
The wing tubes will be cut for the customer, but for those that want to see how it's laid out here are some pictures.
When the wings are cut ( In my favorite machine to play with) the root is square. I used a string to draw a straight line down the centerline of the wing tube. I then measured back 18 inches and cut the square for the mid rib that the wing tube is glued into. I capped the end of the phenolic tube, inserted the mid rib, and glued the phenolic tube in place. Easy as pie.
