Mini-Review
VQ Warbirds A-24 Banshee 80" Build and Fly!
Anyone else have one? I just received it last week, Packaged well, Box was double walled with thick cardboard, so zero shipping damage! It builds just like the Dauntless so there is alot of info out there on how it assembles, but Ill be doing my spin on it, with some tips or tricks.

I'm really upset that the wheels are backward. I wonder if they could be redone to face the outside?

I hope to have mine running this weekend, using a DLE 35RA.
I did use their retracts and had an issue with one that while it retracted all the way, there was about 5/16 to 3/8 inch of sloop when retracted. One side the wheel was up in the well tight, the other side hung down the amount mentioned. Turns out the switch for the retract stroke needed adjustment. the plane looks great but do a trial fitting of wings and horizontal stab in advance and check alignments. I hope mine flies as nice as a lot of the others have.. |

Advice for detailing please..
Well little update..
Took about a minute to coax life into the dle 35 ra. Did a little tuning only to find out the recommended 3 blade biela scale 18 x 10 only pulled 4500 ... and the suggested 19 x 10 only did 6390 /6400.. Soooooo I guess a prop change and see what it takes to get 7000? Both props fall in the recommended range given in the book. Guess I'll try a19 x 8 and 18 x 10 and see what I get. I know it'll run a bit higher up in the air... Now for another question.. Has anyone tried to weather their bird yet? I usually use chalk ground up in a coffee grinder, then dry brush it, and seal with flat clear.. But. I scuffed up surface with a scotch brite pad, careful you can rub printed color and detail off, give it a coat of clear, then brush desired color on clear to seal, repeat with each color. I can't get the powder to stick at all! I even put the ground up chalk in an aluminum ice cube tray, baked it in oven for 15 min at 200 degrees thinking that would burn out any moisture. I can't get it to stick. The covering feels like a thin film of a PVC type material. I've been using the couple of the supplied extra covering pieces as text dummies and no luck. Water and oil based are fine, but I prefer to use chalks for the dirt, grime, and mud, and use the liquid based colors for oils, grease and such. Here's how the powders turned out on my last project Any suggestions? |
