running a Vess 28b on the SD , pull out is really good considering the size of the plane and the weight ... who would have thought that the 120 would throw this around as well as it does

Re: Pilot-RC 40% Decathlon building thread

Help !
Both of my wings have a carbon aileron hinge pin and a flap hinge pin sticking out from the wing tip or wing root about 1/2". I was able to push one in about 1/8"; but, the others don't seem to want to be moved.

Why are they there ?
What did you do with them ?

Thanks in advance !

Has anyone tried to program their flaps on a single Channel with the SmartFly Eq10? Maybe I'm the only one using a Smart Fly. Thanks

I will be. Isn't that the way to go?
I think it would be just like matching the two servos for one aileron.
I'm about a month from getting around to it. Goold luck!

Not exactly, with flaps, one of the servos is reversed, unless you use two channels for flaps.

If you have Hitec servos, you can reverse one of them with the Hitec programmer

Isn't 10 channels enough to do everything, including a channel for each flap?
1 channel for left wing aileron servos.
1 channel for left wing flap.
1 channel for right wing aileron servos.
1 channel for right wing flap.
1 channel for elevators (one servo per side) I suppose one of these servos is reversed, also. (split to 2 channels or use servo reverser).
1 channel for rudder.
1 channel for throttle.
1 channel for smoke.
1 channel for lights.
= 9 or 10 channels
Help me out here higharc, what else am I missing?

I was hoping to use an EQ-6 and hook the throttle servo and smoke directly to open channels on my 12 channel receiver, if needed, and use the Hitec servo reverser. In another month I'll probably have some better ideas.

I hope there is something here you find helpful.
Or, at least maybe you've had a good chuckle about my trial and errors!

Good Luck!

Larry

I have three (3) 1 M4 bolts with nuts left over. Does anyone know where they were intended to go? I have been substituting my own hardware here and there.

I have thick and thin aluminum spacers for mounting the struts. I there a pattern for placement of these? Thanks

Re: Pilot-RC 40% Decathlon building thread

I received my flying/landing light system from Chief Aircraft today. I was quite hesitant about spending $99 for some LEDs and a controller, just to decorate my plane. WOW are they cool and bright. I tried them out on a 9V transmitter battery. Even with just 9V they were really bright. My plan was to use the 9V battery for my smoke system. Now I think I'll hook both the lights and smoke pump up to that battery. Once I install the long wiring to the wing tips and vertical stab the lights may not be as bright, in which case I have a spare 3S Lipo.

I am a bit short on channels on my Eq6; but, I have an un-tried idea to free up a channel for controling the landing light which is located in the nose of the plane. I'm going to try controlling a servo/switch system for the landing light by using the flap channel. I'm hoping to have the landing light activated anytime I have the flaps lowered more than a few degrees.

The idea for the servo/switch system came from "higharc" Thank you higharc !

This stuff is really fun !!!

Re: Pilot-RC 40% Decathlon building thread

Ok Guys... I posted this in the thread on the Hempel Super D but I'm interested in your thoughts and opinions, especially if you fly IMAC/ 3D type stuff AND this Super D.

I am currently trying to decide what planes I want in my hangar. Right now I have a 41% Trueworthy Pitts that I bought over a year ago and haven't gotten ready to fly yet (long story). My intention back then was to get that ready to fly as a "show plane" because it's just so cool and then to buy a 35%er to set up for IMAC. Well, due to the whole turn in the economy and what not that's not going to happen. Honestly at this point I'm not too concerned about an IMAC plane because I just don't think I am going to have the time to get out and practice enough to do well with it anymore.

I guess my real question for you guys is do you have more FUN flying your IMAC/3D rigs or your Super D? At this point I just want something that I can take to the field that everybody is gonna like (I'm an attention seeker what can i say?), and something I can do some basic aerbatics with and maybe torque roll now and then. IF I decide to get back into IMAC I can get a rig for that then.

THEN I have to decide if the plane from above or the Pitts is the one I want. I'm a little hesitant about the Pitts because it's really a one of a kind that would never be replaced if I dumb thumb it. Anybody want a nice 41% Trueworthy Pitts so I can afford a Super D? ha ha

Anyway... Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks for your thoughts guys!

I used a Smart-Fly EQ10 and I used one channel for the flaps but i needed to reverse one of the outputs on that channel thru the EQ10 so the flap servo on the corresponding wing would work correctly....I have them coupled with the aileron. When my flaps are up, the flaps work in unison with the ailerons and essentially turn into ailerons. When I need the flaps, I flip the switch and they decouple from the aileron and work as flaps with 3 positions (Up, Mid, and full down). I'm not smart when it comes to programming the EQ10. It took a lot of reading, re-reading, and re-re-reading the manual and then lots of hands on practice. I got very frustrated on more than one occasion as the operating instructions had me bouncing back and forth from 2 different manuals as they cross referenced each other. The instructions were written by a very intelligent, engineer type person and I had difficulty dumbing it down to my level. I can only fathom what life must be like to be so smart and savvy. Lesson learned, When in doubt call their wonderful tech support.

Larry,

Your absolutely right! There are more than enough channels.
