Red Bull Air Race, Perth, Nov 19, 2006
For those of you on the west coast of Australia, the last Red Bull Air Race of the 2006 race season will be in Perth, this Sunday, Nov 19th.
All the pilots have arrived in Perth this week, with their technicians having been in Perth for the last week re-assembling the airplanes after the race plane's trip to Perth on the big 747 air transport aircraft. The re-assembly tasks went well and all of the guys have had a chance to take advantage of the extra time to do some sight-seeing and spending some time on the beach. They are really enjoying the Austrailian hospitality. Kirby's crew guys, Len Rulason (my sweety) and Jason Resop had a good trip over on Air New Zealand. They shared the flight with Ian Howard and some of the rest of the r/c pilots from OZ after their adventures here at the Shootout. I hear that Ian and some of his mates will be attending the Air Race. Grant Finlay and Aaron Williams of New Zealand will have some prime seats in the friends and family section for the race. They had a chance to hook up with Len and Jason this week for some beers and hopefully Len will be seeing them up at the Jandakot Airport today (Wednesday) before the race planes get re-positioned to the temporary airfield at Langley Park, Wednesday afternoon. The folks at Fighter Combat International, which is based at Jandakot Airport, have been providing hangar space and equipment to all the Red Bull Race Teams as pre and post race support. www.fciwa.com Training flights are set to take place on Thursday and Friday, Qualification flights on Saturday, with Sunday being Race Day. There ia a map and a schedule of events for all the training, qualification and race day activities on the Red Bull Air Race website at http://www.redbullairrace.com/race.php?id=16 See the links on the lower left of the page. There is a Public Paddock Walk in Langley Park starting at 9:00 a.m. on Race Day, Sun, Nov 19th, where the general public can view all the race planes and meet the pilots. If any of you guys are there be sure to give Len a shout, he will be near Kirby and the race plane all dressed up in his Chambliss Aerobatics team wear. I have been posting pictures from Perth on our website at www.acrodesigns.com At the moment there are a lot of tourist shots as the guys have been more tourists then technicians. That all changes today, with the race planes being re-positioned to Langley Park. Hope some of you have a chance to head on out and see some of the action; it looks to be a very cool race; with Perth as a spectacular back drop for the event. Regards, Anna Wood |
