Re: 14MZ for Dummies
3D,
Lets start at the very beginning. You have your cable plugged into the radio and the servo plug connected to the DSC port on the RX correct? It can only go into that port. Not the Batt port or any other servo port. Tell me you have that and it still dont work and we will get busy with your problem. Kiwi |

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
Thanks Kiwi, Great thread by the way.... I will try it AGAIN now. But first let me ask this.... will the DSC only work with the G3 reciever? Or will it work with the 1024PCM futaba recievers as well?

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
Well, problem solved... sort of. I just got done playing around with it and got the G3 R/X to work with the DSC. It plugs in the B/C slot in the R/X (the DSC) and you do need to use a R/X pack to power it hense it does not use the T/X power. As far as the 1024 pcm reciever goes i did the same thing (changing models of course) and i cannot seem to get it to work.... i just want to know if this is only a feature that can be used on the G3 recievers. That is what i am finding. I guess it's no big deal....
Next question.... isn't there supposed to be a LED on this G3 R/X? i never saw any sort of ilumination from the small hole under the chanel plug ins.... does not even look like there is a bulb there? Did this get changed or somthing? The manual says somthing about a LED on there.... |

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
Good question and I dont have an answer I can be certain of but I think the following would be true.
The DSC will work on anything with a DSC plug, but the radio will have to have the corresponding modulation set to match. That is you will need to have the rx etc loaded and registered in your radio on that specific model setting you are using. So if you have a blank MDL file with no rx number registered against that particular plane it likely wont connect. That is despite the fact that your radio is set to 2048 you will still have to install the recvr number for the two to be able to communicate. If you have a 1028 recv then you will need the modulation set to 1028 to have it work. At least I think it have to work that way. Hope you understand what I'm trying to mean here. It seems difficult to explain. Kiwi |

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
I see where you are coming from... looks like we replyed at the same time! look one post behind yours.....for my results, i was curious if you found the time to try it on one of yours if you have a 1024RX and let me know your result.....

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
3D.
Ok you got me in trouble dude. How do I get out of this shop once I enter so early in the day. DSC works like a charm on 1024 Recvr. The radio is not powered up from the Recr battery by the way. It switches on when you plug in the DSC cable without even plugging it in to the RX. But you MUST power up the receiver with its own battery for things to work. The light on the top of your transmitter will be blue. When I get back home this evening I will post a photo of my trusty test rig. Makes it really easy to sort this stuff out. Kiwi |

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
Guys while we have your attention there is a tip I think that is well worth sharing.
Try and get used to using the four buttons on the bottom of the screen and the wheel. Once you get used to using that you wont need to go poking and prodding the screen with your meat pie sized digits. Its faster and I think the screen will last for ever if you lay off giving it the thumb and finger nail treatment. Sure its nice but I find it easier and quicker to use the buttons and the wheel.Just an opinion. Not advice at all. Kiwi |

Huuuhh.... thanks for checking that out Kiwi, Yes... i know how the T/X powers up after you plug in the DSC cord.... my 9c does the same thing when i use the adapter for AFPD. As far as the battery goes, i was actually thinking the oposite, i was wondering if the T/X battery powered the servos.... which i did find out NO they don't. The R/X powers itself off of the R/X battery. Ohh well, now i'll have to mess around some more to see what i missed on the 1024..... What reciever were you using? I was using a fpr138dp...... I am glad however to hear it did work for you tho... Thanks for going thru the effort. Now get your a$$ out of the shop!! |

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
3D,
This is the little gizmo I use to test things out on. You know I had 36 amps hanging out of this same setup last week and will have the video up soon trying to burn up one of these systems. Thats correct dude. 36 amps and you will be surprised what happened. I also have the new 14MZ proto type Expander going through the same burn and die treatment with my G3 Recvr on it. It wont burn dont worry. But I will have a test new board setup next week with amp meters etc so I can read voltage in and out of the reg, volts to the rx, volts and amps to the servos, plus I hope to be able to have some load cells with digital readouts so I can see the real torque being produced by the servo, the current its drawing and the voltage loss if any. Plus this lets me setup my plane before I even put the hardware in position. Sounds like a lot of messing around I know. And yes it is but I'm a born danged tinkerer. I used to pull clocks to peices as the 6 year kid to see how they worked. I never did get one back together though. Kiwi |

Re: 14MZ for Dummies
All the new G3 Rx's come with the cut antenna wire. You should also do to any old G3 rx,s you have.
It may not make any difference but it wont be any worse. The antenna length apparently was critical with some generated stray RF on helis and some gas models. The shorter antenna reduces the potential of this happening. Again its your choice but you wont buy a new rx with the long antenna any more. They are all about 21 inches. Kiwi |
