PAU 150cc - 200cc Extra 300SP 123"

Alright, time for a forum support thread on the new big dog in town, the Performance Aircraft Unlimited Extra 300SP! This is the new 40% class plane from PAU, and it's a real winner. I've been lucky enough to do the prototype duties on this machine, and I must say that this plane is everything I've hoped for and more. I'll be posting up some photos in the near future of the build and at the field, but for now I thought I'd start the thread off with a video that has just been completed by Ken-H. Thanks Ken for editing the footage!

A few words on the prototype plane: This airplane is set up with a DA-150 on KS-95 canisters, Mejzlik 32-10 prop, No Limitz 5" Ultimate style fiberglass spinner, Futaba 9156 servos on the ailerons and elevators, 2 x 9157 servos on the rudder in a pull-pull configuration, Fromeco 5200 Li-Ion batteries for receiver (2) and ignition, and a Smart-Fly EQ6T power system with a Futaba 608 FASST receiver for guidance. Total weight is just under 39 pounds.

Get out here on a nice day and you'll get your turn. So far only four people have flown this plane.

Geologically speaking I don't think 6 months is too long.

Nice flying Ryan; it's so nice to see a video without 5 min. of hovering in it when your trying to get an idea of how an airframe will do in IMAC. Wish there was a similar vid of the 100cc version. That is without a doubt one of the best looking Extras I've see. Way to go PAU. The 100cc version is for sure on my short list for my next airframe.

Agree 100% on the video. Nice to see some precision capabilities shown. Tired of all the hovering/3D only videos for new airplanes.

Tom,

Holy cow! I haven't seen or heard from you in quite some time!!

Hopefully, you will be able to see/fly the 100cc in person soon! I plan on trying to get one together as soon as time (and $$) permits after the container arrives!!

Regards,

Astrohog

Here are some of the photos I took during construction of the prototype. Just a note here: There are going to be some minor structural changes to the production planes, so the construction you see here may look slightly different in the customer birds. The rudder servos are going to be mounted further back in the production planes, there will be a wiring tube running back to the tail to keep your wires clear of the pull-pull, and some other minor changes. Aerodynamically, what you saw flying in the video is what you're going to get! No changes needed there.

Additionally, the prototype has aluminum landing gear. Production planes will have carbon gear. The sub-39 pound weight on the prototype plane includes the aluminum gear.
