Wowie !! Partial engine failure today. Pratt R-985 went BANG,,, Shudder, shudder, shudder. Declared an emergency and limped into the nearest airport. Settled down a bit removed the cowling and plugs. One piston does not move when the prop is moved,,, Broken rod, wrist pin or piston. Gonna have to pull the jug and look for other damage.

OK here it goes..
Caveat to start - I am not anywhere near the same league as the biz pilots.
But here it goes...
A&P ticket -1980.
Hartzell prop certified.(Worked in a prop shop Aircraft Specialists in Clarksville Ind
doing annuals and eng overhauls and insurance bid airframe overhauls/rebuilds.)
They also had a wing exchange for Cessna's banged alot of Ag wings and such.
Prob closer 600 hours flying right seat in
Cessna 421's,414's,340's,310's,Skymaster, 182, 172 RG cutlass.
I have about 20 hours in logged in Pitts S2 fully inverted fuel and oil.
What a physical thing doing aerobatics is...learned a little about G tolerance.
Built most of my time in Piper 180 what a fun airplane!
Uncle owned Liberal Aircarft in Liberal Kansas got my start there-did majority if Cessna right seat flying there.
Uncle had Cessna dealership.
Thanks Uncle Arthur.
More importantly been building and flying RC since 1976 - Dad helped me build tissue covered U-controls in the 60's before there was monokote.
Pretty much just 40'%ers now.

Not flying much fullscale anymore except with Dave Davis on occasion.
Also did first outside loop in Super Decathlon when I was 21 - back in 1981.

FWIW - Flyfalcons has some nice tailfeathers of RV going together in his garage.

I also flew Avionics Aircrew in P3-Orions in Navy from 1985-1991.
Worked at NASA (Moffet Field,CA) from 1991-1993 in the 40X80 and 80 X120 wind tunnels doing flow vis support.
Funnest job I ever had.
OK there's my life story.

Ronster

Ronster, small world moment approaching!

I grew up in Liberal. Lived across the alley from Art my whole life. Been friends since birth! My dad bought several planes from him when I was young. We kept our planes with Art as well.

I hear what he's up to from time to time, but havent seen him in several years. Tell him Dan and Dr. Ed say hi!

Got the "OK" from Van's on my elevator folds. Thanks for your input on those! I should be posting an update soon, then on to ordering the wing kit.
