Aeroworks - The Rest of the Story

Aeroworks was founded in the late1990’s and sold large scale radio model aircraft worldwide. They were profitable and grew over the years. Their aircraft helped put many pilots in the winners circle all over the world including numerous wins at the TOC in LasVegas.

In 2014 the west coast dock strike cut off their supply of containers for many months during their prime selling season. Once the containers were off loaded, they waited many weeks to be picked up by cargo container haul trucks. More delays. Remember when Walmart and Target had many empty shelves waiting for inventory from the west coast. When the product finally arrived they had to discount it to move it out. Many of the kits that they had presold ended up with the orders being cancelled. We modelers are a restless bunch and could not wait for the shipment.

In 2015 they had to re-source their Chinese suppliers as their original ones had gone out of business due to no product to build during the dock strike. By August of 2016 Aeroworks had run out of funds and their last supplier was not able to build any more product. They ceased operations October 28, 2016.

At the time of the closing, the Aeroworks inventory included:
  • 204 Kits
  • 600 Pilots
  • 123 Spinners
  • 122 Props
  • 38 Factory Prototype Aircraft
  • 16 Used Engines
  • Numerous Accessories
In February of 2017, the landlord moved the inventory out of the Aeroworks facility. Over the next year the inventory appeared in numerous swap meets and auctions. Most of the airplanes were sold through contacts made here on Flying Giants. The original creditors never were allowed to liquidate the inventory to recover their losses. Brian Emeson of Parker, CO sold much of the inventory on the internet through his company Code3 innovations, which supplies safety equipment to law enforcement personnel. Brad Wiessenfels of Littleton, CO sold his inventory through swap meets and auctions such as the Jefco auction. He used to own Action Hobbies.

Sandy and Rocco’s fate can be found in The Federal Bankruptcy Court, Colorado Division. The fate of the lenders to Aeroworks can be found in the lien filings with the Colorado Secretary of State. Only the landlord, their clean up crew, and Brian and Brad made any money on the sale of inventory.
