Stephens Akro Documentation

Does anyone know who might hold the design rights and drawings for the old Stephens Akro? I contacted York Aircraft hoping Devin would know, but he had no idea. Figured he'd be my guy considering York Aircraft sells plans for many Laser variations. Is it possible that the original drawings for an aircraft of such historical significance have faded to non existence?

Thanks, Van. I do have all those Stephens Akro pictures from the Boeing Museum and have visited in person a few years back. That is one marvelous museum for any aviation enthusiast to explore.

I gotta go someday soon! I've always admired the Akro design.

Back in the early 80's I got to fly "The Dude" Stephes Acro. A couple of friend's repaired it after he had lost the canopy in flight. It was weird as it had a tooled leather interior like a saddle. Was owned by a gut in Northern Idaho. There was a magizine article on it in the late 70s early 80s. As I remember it really flew nice.

Time for an update.

Early this spring on a popular auction site I stumbled across this fold out promotional brochure along with pictures and a letter from Gerry Zimmerman written to Clayton Stephens. The letter was apparently written soon after Gerry had constructed and flown the first homebuilt Stephens Akro. This is the same Akro that Gerry later sold to Joann Osterud in 1976 and the one hanging in the Museum Of Flight. I thought you guys would probably enjoy seeing pictures of these historical items.

Amazing as my first find was, I soon thereafter ran across a second listing for what appeared to be a complete set of plans. Upon receiving the plans I was very surprised to find the original mailing label very nicely preserved on th tube. When I questioned the seller they verified that the plans indeed came from the estate of Joann Osterud. Nottke was Joanns married name at the time Gerry mailed th plans to her.

Recently surfaced on the interweb an early picture of Leo's Stephens Akro, apparently before he had began doing his Laser modifications. What a great looking airframe. I really wish I would have gotten to see him fly it back then. If anyone knows of any video footage I would be grateful to see it.
