Started work on the lower deck... I got the 2 halves glued together and started taping/glueing sheeting.

Haha.... all of that is coming brotha! I’ll lighten up the lower deck after sheeting is glued on.

Sub 40 would be awesome but honestly, I don’t really have a weight goal. I ‘know’ it’s going to come in light (based on how I’m building it and other threads with similar techniques)... but I’m not shooting for the lightest possible pro out there.

We’ll all find out together I guess!

For glueing, here’s the technique I use:

1. Tape all the sheets together. Make seams tight!!!
2. Open up the seam and apply small bead of glue.
3. Slide sheet back to close the glue gap.
4. Scrape excess glue with a dull/semi blunt metal or plastic scraper.
5. Lightly sand across the gap with 120 sandpaper and tape the entire seam.
6. Repeat 2 through 6 until entire skin is glue and taped.
7. Add some handy dandy angle weights that everyone wants )))

Ok, I got the sheeting glued together for the rudder/fin, the top rear deck, the lower deck and the hatch. Now I’ll sand them all and get them attached to foam!

For sanding, I’ll do 120, 220, 320, 400, hairspray, then 600. This has been a proven method so I’m sticking to what works!

Thanks man! These are the foam parts to the 124 Pro... they were already cut. Once I get this fuse down the road, I’ll make templates and cut parts for the 109. I’d REALLY like to be flying the 124 Pro in the 2020 IMAC season so I thought it would be best to focus on It a while.

I’m still going to build them side-by-side, just focusing on the big one at the moment.

Craig, Loving your builds so far! Can you share how you make, cut, and finish all the carbon and laminated parts you have used in the building of these two Extras? What tools to you use when cutting the carbon? Great work so far, and understanding how you made all these carbon parts would be a big help to me, and I'd guess to many other would-be builders.
Thanks, Larry

Hey Larry! Most of the carbon parts in this build I bought as a sheet from dragon plate or hobby king.

I did, however, make a few sheets of my own. The motorbox tabs on the 109 are 1 piece of carbon fiber cloth with 1/16” balsa sandwiched in between. I also took carbon cloth and laid up several sheet with epoxy (1 layer, 2 layer and 3 layer). I was experimenting :/.

Nothing real tricky! I just bought some laminating epoxy online, some PVA and some brushes! Most of my layups have been over glass (for a smooth finished side)

Hope that helps! Thanks for following along!

Works great as a french curve template in a pinch. Couldn’t have got the templates done without it
