Sell yer big 'uns - 400 ft. a reality

I'm sure you all got the AMA message about 400' (or less) becoming the law of the land. Why am I not surprised? Here's the link: http://amablog.modelaircraft.org/ama...19/10/07/4029/. Now, lemme think, where is that Tiger 2 I used to fly......

So much for the AMA telling us everything is going to be OK.

But this is no surprise. AMA is once again "Stunned" that the FAA is going to follow the letter of the law.

It’s only for controlled airspace, so fields out in the middle of nowhere should be safe up to 1,200 AGL. Still not OK, but not the end of the world.

I’m of the opinion that the AMA has proven they aren’t as competent as they think, or at least royally misread the room in trying to associate themselves with drones.

Told my wife about this. She asked, "How are they going to know how high you're flying?"

Smart woman there!

Remote ID is coming. Plus FAA knows that current technology exists to know your altitude.

The real question is if the AMA will continue to sanction soaring, IMAC, pattern, and jet events knowing full well those all routinely fly above 400 .

We all have a lot of decisions to make.

Ignore/comply with altitude limits
Ignore/comply with registration
Ignore/comply with test requirement

Here's the facts:

1. This is NOT a bill yet.

2. The last time the AMA had a call to action, less than 10% of the AMA body responded to it (about 14,000 people), thus our current predicament. This is every bit your fault as it is mine.

3. We still have time to voice our opinions and stop this.

4. STOP with the fear mongering, it is and does nothing good.

Sign the petition, share the hell out of it with your friends, notify your club officers, and make your voice heard!

Remote ID will only work where the infrastructure exists to handle that.

So only club fields within 5 miles of a towered airport will be affected?

You are seriously misinformed. Congress passed this into law last year. Section 349 IS law. It establishes 8 conditions that, if followed, exempts us from complying with Part 107. There is no other action that needs to happen. There is no bill pending, no new rules coming, etc.

This IS active law.

No, ALL fields within the surface area of a controlled airport, regardless of distance from the airport, are affect. Distance is longer the main factor. It is not a factor at all. Airspace is all that matters.
