This is my first war bird. I’m using Robart electric retracts. After I had them installed they seemed noisy and a bit jerky, also at times one or the other would not retract or extend. The manual says the motor will stop if it senses high amp draw so after a real close look I found the motor rubbing up against the frame. Pic 1 is what I found, pic 2 is the metal dust from it grinding, pic 3 is the rub marks on the frame, pic 4 is the repair. Finally a vid of gear operation after repair. Wish I had vid of gear before the repairs. Oops I guess I can’t upload vids here.

Something you must do is kept the threads clean. Least little bit of dirt or metal filings can cause them to stall. I clean the threads and put one drop of turbine oil on the threads each day I fly.

Thanks Ralph, I’ll do that.

The plastic cam block is not centered in the mount. Try moving to the right. You should not be able to see the Edge in the opening.
Hold it to the right when tightening the bolts down.

I tried to do just that but wouldn’t move enough. Had to remove a little material.

Sounds like you have the problem fixed.

Another thing to watch when you install these gear it is important to make sure they sit flat on landing gear wing supports. If everything isn't flat, when you tighten the screws it can twist or rack the gear body and make it bind. This will make the amp draw higher and it can stall. Just something to watch.

I did need to shim up the outer bolts in order to get the gear to go deep enough in the wheel well. They seem to be working ok.
