Hi Scott,

Probably won't be ready 'till next spring. I'm a slow meticulous builder and it will be my winter project. Ran the NGH 38cc four stroke today and may need to retard the timing a little in order to achieve a smoother idle below 2000 RPM. At 1700 RPM and below it really gets the shakes. If I can't resolve the shakey idle, as much as I'd hate to use a two stroke , I may have to resort to a DA 35 that is just taking up space.
For now flying an Extreme Flight 35cc Extra 300 with an EME 35 cc up front. No 3D, just wide open precision type maneuvers without much precision.
I guess I better place my order with Tower before they're out of stock again.

Scott, Are summers very hot in Minnesota? I try to stay away from very dark colors of Ultracote as they tend to wrinkle on hot days when sitting in the sun for any prolonged length of time. The dark blue color on the upper surfaces of the Stinson Reliant are of concern. Although this plane looks great as trimmed, I would have liked to get one in all white and trim it in lighter colors.

radial

Anyone try a Saito 33cc radial or a 60R3? Size wise I think the 60 would just fit inside the cowl. I'm thinking the 33 would just barely be enough to fly it.

Hi Marty,
It gets as warm in Minnesota as it gets cold. We can be over 100F and stinky humid out near the corn fields.
The Stinson's covering has held up very well for me. I tightened it up after pulling it out of the box and have not had to do it again since.

Hi Jimmy,
I'm using the Saito FG40 and its just too much motor. I spend most of my flight time at less than 50% throttle.
If you want to use the Saito Radials, the FG30-R3 should work. I have a Saito FG60R3 on my 120" span Seagull Models Westland Lysander and I rarely run over 50% throttle.

I found a great graphic and Callie was able to make it fit my Stinson!
Thank you!

Do you think the Saito FG-30 will have more than enough power too, or is it too weak? I like the idea of having enough power to do aerobatics without a struggle...loops, rolls, four points, inverted, much like the how the plane is flown in the marketing vid for it on Tower. Thanks.

PS, I just pulled the trigger on the plane today!

Hello maukaonyx!
The FG30 should fly it in a scale manner and sound really cool.

Scale manner sounds on the weak side then? Do you like the FG-40....easy starting, reliable running?

Got one.....

I just acquired one from my friend. DLE 35RA in the nose. Just put some servos in it last night and will give it a go this weekend.

I would expect the FG30-R3 to be expensive, cool sounding and a bit of a challenge at times.
I like my FG40 but it is tough to adjust the mixture and to choke before starting. It requires a special threaded tool to be threaded into the carb and pulled in order to start it. Unfortunately you can't leave it installed.

If you love to fly, I'd recommend a simple DLE 35 RA as it is cheap, reliable and easy to start.

If you love the sound and are not worried about the money and the occasional quirks, then use the Saito.

I hear you about the DLE35RA...I have one in my H9 RV-4 and it starts easy every time, and runs reliably and with power. Thx for the response. Jon

Successful maiden today! Actually flew it twice. Couple clicks of right aileron trim was it. No bad tendencies to speak of.
Rcgf 35cc with a pitts muffler. Xoar 19x8 prop. Plenty of power.
