put my panels on the fuse with bath tub caulk.........taped it over night all is well...as for soft wheels i prefer the hard ones as this plane needs grass to enjoy flying it for many years. the pavement is hard on wing tips etc.. and the sprung gear takes care of the lack of soft tires.. once you fly it you may find it just fine as delivered.......

that pilot is another story.. i used mine with a white scarf attached now. but it sure does weigh a ton for no reason..........plane like the weight though. flew it first on 2 6s 5500 packs then went to the 6s 8000 packs and the extra weight helped it bunches. does great touch and go's now.. very predictable on landings and such..........

Thanks for the input. I think I'll sand down the high spots of resin on the inside of the panels, remove a lot of the covering on the fuse in the area that the panels cover and glue them on. I'll use an adhesive with a longer set time so I have plenty of time to get everything taped down.
I like the idea of using the 6s8000 packs.
Still haven't decided on motor yet. I'm liking the Axi 5360HD.
I also have a Pilot 107" Decathlon that would be good for the same motor/battery set up.
It would be nice to use the same battery packs on multiple planes.
I'm also going with the Aces of Iron pilot.

There are two fiber glass panels that are to be glued on the fuse. One on each side. Have any of you removed the covering on the fuse where these panels are attached?
Thanks, Steve

I figure that this is an ARF so I'm trying to enjoy it without going (too) nuts on details.
The wheels that come with the kit are harder than the Williams Brothers wheels but you already own them and they did not cost extra!
When I glued the molded cowling sides to the fuse I simply used a flexible sealant like silicone bath/counter caulk to glue them directly to the existing covering. It wont crack and handles vibration well.

I removed the covering in the area that is covered by the panels that go on each side of the fuse.

Sanded the inside of the fiberglass panels and cleaned with alcohol. Used 24 hr epoxy to glue the

panels on. Used a lot of masking tape and clamps to make certain all of the edges are down and in

place.

I did opt for the Axi 5360HD V2 with the Eprit Elite 125HV 12S Brushless ESC with Telemetry. I will also be

using a Fiala 26/12 prop.

Hi,
thanks Guys,
Just running the Hanger 9 recommended set-up, except battery

Rimfire 65cc
Castle Talon 120 HV ESC (normal timing, 8khz frequency)
12s HobbyStar 8000mah (2 6s packs in series)
Xoar 24-10 Lance and Simitar Props

I think that the Simitar sounds better, but above video was with Lance

PS. #0-3/8 screws, hex head bolts wing struts

Nicely done Dave! I love the matte finish. It seems to still be floaty and easy to three point even with the (I'm assuming heavy) 8000's.

Was that a pretty par flight with the 8000's or can you fly longer than that?

Thanks Adam,

The HobbyStar 8000mah are quite light considering capacity. 905 gms. each / 2lbs.
I bought them for a large EDF that I fly and they are perfect in this application as well.

Flight time- my camera guy got tired and shut off camera for about two minutes.
I've been setting my timer @ 9 minutes and landing w/ 3.81V per cell. So much longer flights are possible based on flying style.

17 flights now, and I've hardly flown anything else lately. It's great for tall, thick and wet grass. (EDF's are not)

Working on the landing gear struts. Had to do a little tweaking to get the holes in the struts to line up with the blind nuts in the fuse. If your going to use Loch-tite to secure the hardware, don't forget that the struts have to come off when you mount the Cowl.
I'm wondering if the "cross ties" (cables) for the landing gear are functional. They really add to the scale appearance but the "tabs" that the cables attach to are very soft metal.
As someone mentioned earlier, make sure you have a 4mm and a 3mm tap. You will need them.
So far, everything going together pretty well. This is a really nice looking plane and from the videos we're seeing, it's also a nice flier. Can't wait to get mine finished.

Hi Steve,
I suspect the landing cables are not entirely functional, pretty heavy duty steel tubing on the gear. But the wire could help some,
but mine seems to loosen even on my most "greased-in" landings.
All of my DVII documentation only shows one landing gear wire set. They extend from the top of the front gear down to a middle point between the front and back gear legs at the gear wing.
I have some heavier duty wire that I plan to place and some turnbuckles (picture) for quick tightening.
Right now I'm flying with one set of wires going from top front to bottom rear
