FWIW I want it for outdoors, just as a practice plane for the park. I'll use it for when I don't have time for the 30 minute trip to our field. Hoping I can learn and practice some 3d stuff, and turn the throws down and practice percision IMAC type flying. (Sim's, Foamies, I do anything to learn this stuff!)

Thanks again for the input, I think I made the right decision. I'll let you know in a week or so!

Here is a nice vid of our Airfoils Yak, BP. It was a windy day but you get the idea of how good the Airfoilz planes are. Enjoy your Yak.
Yes, the Fancy Foam planes and the type flown at the ETOC are awesome, however they may be hard to handle outside in the wind.

Fancy Foam Xcaliber is awsome!!! No rudder input for a smooth knife edge, 5.5 oz RTF. Also the Slofly 28 has a great slow motion rolling circle..... I am getting ready to maiden my FG foamie from Insane Foamies, heard some great stuff!!! Good Luck!!

I love my airfoilz! The scorpion 2215-18 is THE motor for the yak/edge.

OOooo yes! I've built 3 so far two 39" 6mm versions a 34" 6mm version. I've cut out a 3mm but thats as far as I have gotten with that.

Woody,

You may love your AirfoilZ but I'm not so sure they can love you back after all the torture you put them through... What's the story behind this photo, huh??

Charger R/C foamies are awesome. The Cr-1 and the extra 260 are great planes.

Re: Good Foamies

AirfoilZ are rugged and super fun. It fits easy in my Civic and I fly the dog $hit out of it on my lunch breaks...keeps me proficient. Anyway, I did not like the motor mount - it looked weak. So, I did it a little different and added about the same amount of right thrust as my bigger air craft. Well, it is stronger than the stock config, the MOI is coupled more closely to the firewall, and is more crash survivable.

EDIT: I used 1/8 light ply, soaked with thin CA, countersink the buttonhead screws just a little - not flush, supports were added above and below the motor - epoxy in place....bullet-proof.

I still am unsure about which way to go. And with the lingering hope of another job. (that makes 2) I would definately be able to afford it much faster. I have an ESC and had servos that are now stripped. Never using Eflite servos again. And a battery pack. I am thinking or leaning towards the Insane Foamies and Airfoilz. I will try something and see how it goes.

Re: Good Foamies

Thanks RollingCircles;

Think I'll try that mod...

did the addition alter the CG?
did you have to open the motor cutout to facilitate the 1/8 ply above and below the motor?

Re: Good Foamies

Flyfish, it did not change the CG that I can tell - just go easy on the epoxy and squeeze out as much as you can.

No, there is plenty of room. Those pieces of light ply (1 each above and below the motor) are to reinforce the front plate - I cut mine with a little right thrust.

Re: Good Foamies

Here are some pics of a bad-ass foamie!!!

It's a little more work than the CR-1, but is well worth the extra effort. I fly with the EVO20 1800's 3 cell packs - nice long, high power flights, unlimited vert with plenty of punch-out of a hover. The best set-up for me is 80% expo on all, full rate all the time.
