The permanent ban point level has changed

We have changed the amount of points that are needed to get a permanent ban from FlyingGiantsl.com from 40 to 20. Expired points do not count towards this total, so we only look at the currently active point total. We felt that a large gap from the 15 point level to the 40 point level was giving too much leeway for troublemakers and that it was difficult for a user to reach 20 points unless they were intentionally trying to get banned, so this change should not affect most users.

If you have any comments or concerns about this change, feel free to post them in the Site Suggestions / Complaints forum and we can discuss them further.

How do you propose to ban people, no offense it is pretty easy to just start another account, banning IP's or address ranges wont work either as they can be spoofed as well. You could only use ISP email addresses but I would not join if I could not use my gmail account.

Not that I "really care a lot", but I feel I must make a statement.

This Banstick nonsense is getting a bit old already. Yes, we know you are trying to weed out bad individuals, but its going to far to the point of chasing away members. You do realized the more you keep bring up the "BanStick" the more you scare individuals from posting or joining? Word of mouth goes a long way.

I know I can never win this argument, but here is my take....

Numbers dont lie and your forum stats dont either if you read between lines.

Currently Active Users (in the last 15 minutes): 432 (132 members and 300 guests) = 69% of your "active viewers" are guests. What percent of theses guests are Bots, spiders, blah blah.

Just my .02c

its really getting old folks. Let it be.

You guys are going to do as you will but I have to agree with Superrmario.
All in all things seem to be going pretty good here let's not through a wrench in it.
Just my 1 cent worth.

I agree with SM as well. I am nowhere near as active on FG as I used to be. I dont think I have posted anything that would get me banned, but just the whole insanity of banning people because the FG gods dont agree with what the poster writes. Its really gotten pretty stupid in recent months.

We don't want to ban anyone. That's not what we're about. As a whole, the changes we've made to the system have been to make it more lenient.

It actually takes quite a bit of work to get banned these days.

If you have any questions about how it works, please feel free to post in Site Suggestions / Complaints and I'll walk you through it.

To check your point level, click on "My FlyingGiants" in the menu. If you have any, they will be listed on that page, but nobody who has posted a comment here has any, so you guys won't see anything.

In fact, there are only 2 people on the site with more than 10 posts who even have 5 points and since the points expire in 90 days, there is no one in danger of even getting close to the 20 point level.

Jim.. I am sure you don’t want to ban anyone.

My point is this:

With all that nonsense that transpired over the initial change, the pot was stirred. You, I and everyone else knows that. I speak for myself and don’t want to put words in others mouth, but I feel that a majority of the general FG public took the initial change as negative. Maybe it wasn’t, but the court of public opinion made up its mind on that and this cannot be changed. Why bring a negative subject back into the spotlight?

You still keep your points even if the post is edited. Editing it just makes it so others can see it again.

No, the points are automatically removed once the post is edited.

I strongly disagree- I know I'm not the only one and the content of the site has gotten better since.
