Great input Tim, thanks for posting. I have come to the same conclusion, SFGs for 3-D, not for precision. I also agree with everything you said about the quality of this plane, and EF in general.

Been searching Hobbyking and ran across this. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...unner_(Eq:5240)

It shows 3-8 cells but many people seem to be running it on 10s. Some Data i found here, http://www.bungymania.com/imageshome...erf1.php?id=37 seems to show a 10s pack with APC 20x11e at 60.6 amps at 19.4 lbs of static thrust. If i understand electrics right if you would up the prop to say a 22x10 and it pulled say 70 amps that would be 2590 watts (roughly) That should be fine for this airframe? no?

The motor is a little heavy, but should work OK. Make sure you use a 10S pack.
If you want something that has been tested and will work great get a Scorpion S-5525-225, Castle HV-85, 10S 4800 pack, and an APC 20x13.

I would expect the bearings to fail as they're not very good on that brand. Having said that, I use the same brand motor on my 300EXP and find it's otherwise a FANTASTIC value. It's bearings are getting crunchy now after about 40-50 flights. $60??!!?? I'll take that and a new set of bearings any day over any of the 'name brand' motors out there.

Also, I highly recommend the 100A ESC they sell there. Another fantastic value.

Bearings will be on the list. I've had a few smaller motors from HK and 3 have needed bearings but now run great!

It's Christmas Eve here in San Diego, temperature is in the upper 60's, it's sunny, and the wind is 3 MPH right down the runway. Only had a half day of work to do, so I ran down to the field to get a few flights on my 78" Extra. Had a friend snap this picture to wish all of you a Merry Christmas.

There is no groundsman, and no grass. The field is located on Mission Bay right next door to Sea World. It is a beautiful site actually, we are very lucky. The field is owned by the City, and leased to us very inexpensively. Since the field is right next to the Ocean, in a City Park, it is considered to be in an environmentally sensitive area. We are not able to pave it, or plant grass on it. It is a hard clay surface, and works very well. It doesn't rain often enough here in San Diego to grow grass without lots of irrigation. Very nice for flying.

I few Saad's 78" Extra yesterday. Scorpion motor is a perfect match for this plane. Pedro you still got that 21 X 12 CF prop? I may want to try it....

Mine is a 20 x 11WE. Not sure if that's going to be enough prop.
