Re: Precision Aerobatics Katana MD

Got some more done today, Glued in the Stab and fin. Hinged the elevator and rudder, fitted the elevator horn and fitted the tail wheel. Had to do a touch of sanding in the stab slot to get it to sit level but it was fairly close out of the box. My only complaint so far is that I wish they had of pre cut the hinge slots, I hate doing them. Tomorrow I plan on mounting the motor box, elevator and rudder servos, plus a bit more if I get time inbetween the kids.

Bit more done on it today. Installed the motor box along with the motor, fitted the cowl, and fitted the elevator and rudder servo's. Basically just goto fit out the rest of the electronics then its all don. Ive followed the instructions for everything so far and everything sems to work. The only thing I did deviate from the manual was I used hinge tape to seal the elevator and rudder hinge instead of the supplied covering film.

Nice Plane I have been flying one for about 20 flights, and she flys great. The carbon gear and plastic wheels do not mix well the plastic spokes on mine cracked out on the first landing on pavement that had a few cracks in it. The gear also delamited and I have had to repair it after that. so be carefull that is a big down fall.

I'm sure if you have any problems with your LG contact Precision Aerobatics about it and they will help you.

This is the first time i hear about one of the KMD gear delaminating, i can tell you on my first KMD, i had over 3 huge crashes(two of them lost total radio control of the plane), and in none of them the landing gear broke, neither ripped out the gear of the plane, that is quite amazing IMO. I did break the wheels once, but that was on the crash where the plane lost radio

Re: Precision Aerobatics Katana MD

Well its all done and awaiting its maiden tomorrow if the weather cooperates. Overall I think its an excellent bit of gear. There are a few small things I would like to see done a little different. I think the wing retaining bolt should be moved about 5-10mm aft away from the bulkhead to help get the spanner in a little easier. I would also like to see the hinge slots pre cut, this would help save time and on this price kit should be done. I think a carbon hinge pin that ran the entire length of the aileron and was removable would be a great asset. I have a bit of slop in one aileron the will be very hard to fix. A removable pin like on the Comp ARF rudder and elevator would be great. Lastly I would like to see a wire pull pull cable like on a lot of the foamies(QQ Bype Yak etc) i had a lot of trouble with the ends of the Kevlar fraying. These are all small things that are just personal preference. I would rate this plane about 7.5-8 out of 10. I was very pleased to get the all up weight including battery to come out at 970gm just 5 grams more then the suggested approx, weight on the PA site. This does not include wheel pants though. The CG has come out at about the middle of the suggested range with everything in its reccomended place. Cant wait to fly it. Will give a flight report tomorrow night.
