Question
Futaba 16SZ :how many receivers can be bound to it?

Iím not meaning to add more channels. Just eliminating extensions. The manual says 2 receivers but I think they are referring to adding channels. Can I link five 8 channel receivers if all I need is 8 channels?

Only 2 receivers max. Page 42 of the manual states "You cannot link three receivers".

Haha. You can bind as much as you can. With FASSTests only one of them can transmit telemetry data.

Not sure what you are trying to do, however:

When using the dual RX mode in FASSTest protocol 2 RXs are the max. This allows channels 1-8 on RX #1 and 9-16 on RX #2.

However, in FASST mode there is no limit to the number of receivers that can be linked. But you will only get the same channels from each of them. So assume a 8-channel FAAST RX you would get channels 1-8 on however many FASST receivers you have linked.

Okay thanks. 60% scale airplane. 1 receiver and battery in each wing, 2 in the tail and 1 in the fuse for the rudder servos. Trying to avoid 10 foot long servo extensions.

Yes 60% Super Cub. Hitec HSB-9381TH servos.

2 Servos each Aileron
2 Servos each Flap
2 Servos each Elevator side
2 Rudder servos
Throttle servo
Choke servo
Ignition kill

8 channels will be cutting it close. I should be able to get it done though. Iím thinking Iíll need 2 channels for the ailerons and 1 each of the rest.

If you do not already have your servos you can use S.Bus to get more than the number of channel ports on a receiver. You might ask Bill how he sets his up as well.

Thanks, Bill designed the plane with hatches in the wings so each wing can have its own radio system independent from the rest of the plane. No wires to plug in putting the wings on. He had a receiver , battery ,match box and regulator in each wing. Then 2 more in the tail and 1 in the cockpit. 5 receivers total. Kinda neat. Plus no 10 foot long extensions. I read a build thread on here between Bill and another member. They each had a cub and discussed the assembly as they went. That was back in 2009. Plenty has changed since then with radio equipment.

then he was using FASST receivers, which will work fine, except each receiver will get the same channels. So channel 1 will be the same on all of them, channel 2, etc.

But you will not be able to do that using FASSTest receivers, since you are limited to only 2 rx max in the dual RX mode.

What about the R7014SB receiver. I see it says FASSTest/FASST on it. I’m assuming it’s switchable to either system?

The 7014 would work fine in FASST mode. Five of them is going to be a little pricey.

Ya this is becoming more complicated than I had anticipated. I’m use to Spektrum. This is my first Futaba radio.

Well, it is an unusual set up, which is going to be more complicated than a smaller plane.

I may have missed it, but how many channels, actual controls, do you plan on using?

Why to use 14-chanel receiver? You do not need it. Use R7006SB receiver and you will be fine, it supports both FASST and FASSTest mode. I suggest to use channel 1-6 for controllable surfaces, you will be fine with just the receiver in those places, and for throttle, choke and ignition you can use R7006SB again with S.BUS decoder or S.BUS servos to be able to use higher channels 7-16.
