I fly a Super Cub w/ 31" Alaska Bush Wheels on it, and I can ski for as long as I've got gas, and I never lock up the brakes. I've asked other Cub pilots (who waterski their birds) about the brake deal, and of the 4-5 I've asked, noone locks up the brakes. It's all about speed, tire rotation has virtually nothing to do with it. Smaller tires require a little more speed, but not much (check out youtube, there's videos of planes doing it with stock tires). As for me, I can plane nicely at 35-40 mph INDICATED! Then again, the one I play with ain't exactly stock, either. Take a closer at the videos. The water is "spinning" off the wheels, that can only happen if they are turning.

im glad someone comfirmed this,, i was unsure from the get go when the Harvard video came out.. the only full scale experiance i have in with sailplanes so i cant say much, but the several sticktime rides iv had in varies craft, by far the most fun was in a supercub up in wisconsin.. true flying at its best. id do what i could to do more

That is the coolest piece full scale flying I've seen.

Almost borderline redneck (not necessarily a bad thing).

the brakes probably hold the tires so they work like skis not wheels.

Here is a video of what I saw. I'm guessing th difference in speed between a cub and a T-6 would make a huge difference. Too bad there isn't any narration in this vid.

Harvards - Water Touch & Go (2 min 11 sec)

Here's a vid of me in the Carbon Cub last week at a fly-in. The sod runway I used here was 50' wide, I decided I only need half of...the width. That's right, boys and girls...25' take-off roll.
