Think this is something we will ever see? I personaly think seeing his challenger haul ass around the course would be awesome.

Re: Sean tucker in red bull air race
I don't think the challenger is a 300mph airplane. It would not be competitive.
Steve, can you chime in here, you work with the team. |

I dunno, I think he'd make great time around the corners.
But he makes his money (and his sponsor's money) at displays, so yea, don't hold your breath. |

Re: Sean tucker in red bull air race
I really doubt it. He seems a lot like a mainstream air show guy, but it would be awesome.

Bonhomme, Jones, Goulian, Mangold, Chambliss, Besenyei... They are all mainstreat airshow pilots, I dont see how that would be cinsidered a limiting factorl. Granted the challenger only does about 240 in a dive. I dont know what its sustained speeds around the sourse would be, I suppose it wouldntbe competitive. Im sure they could get oracle to spring for an extra though. Its good publicity, and I feel like the red bull air race will soon be drawing larger crowds/viewership than MOST airshows. |

Re: Sean tucker in red bull air race
I've asked Sean about the Red Bull, doesn't seem to have much interest in it right now, that being said, you never know. He's real involved with the formation team "The Collaborators", Eric Tucker Extra 300, Ben Freelove Extra 300, and Bill Stein Edge 540.
In reference to the Challenger, it would never qualify, its a fast airplane but not that fast. For reference he cuts the ribbons at approx. 200kts. He would have to re-tool and get a race plane built just for that purpose. Steve |

Re: Sean tucker in red bull air race
I believe the Modified 540's like Kirby C. and P. Besenyi fly run around 230 straight line,, and hold ALOT of speed around the corners,, the Challenger is not even a choice, it would never be made competitive,, those guys racing red bull now are modifiying wingtips, cowls, anything to give them that 1/10 of a second advantage,, its amazing the money they drop in researching and modifying,

Re: Sean tucker in red bull air race
I don't expect to see any more Americans on the circuit until one of the current Americans quit. Red Bull is international and there are a lot of qualified pilots out there. The races are really more popular in Europe. Look at the race attendance compared to the US races.
I belive the rules only allow them to run an Edge, Extra, or MX currently. Dan |
