50cc Yak 55sp from Dawghouse

If I can figure out how to get the pics in here Dawghouse R/C should be getting this new 55sp to the streets in the next month or two. She looks well built, and light. The 55sp is a much better looking plane than a 54, and handles well. This will be the first manufacturer/distributor to bring a 55sp to market. Nice to have something different.

In talking with Scott, owner of Dawghouse, I found there will be some nice options available with the plane, all the way down to a package with everything you need except your radio to get it done. Pricing was VERY good!! If anybody wants that info I'll do a copy and paste from my e-mails with him.

very nice looking plane. i hope that the two socket head bolts i see in the pictures at the fore and aft ends of the wing area are not what holds the wings on. it looks like they may be difficult to access after everything is put inside the fuse. especially the front one after the tank is installed. could just be the angle of the picture though.
after taking a closer look, it seems that there is another tab in the middle by the wing tube. does that make three anchor points for the wings then?

looks like the fore and aft points are the anti-rotation pins....

should be an interesting plane. Lookin forward to seeing how it flies!

Fick is correct, those are CF anti-rotation pins. This plane looks very nice. What will be the price?

I wish DAWG house would hire an engineer...

The "Truss" cutout on the engine box is very nice... except the grain of the plywood should align with the cutouts...

there are no continuous wood fibers along the truss members....

Dawg... Turn the Plywood 45 degrees and you got it!!!!

And then add some 1/4 inch spruce in the corners.

Re: 50cc Yak 55sp from Dawghouse

Well the ply is named ply for a reason, it could be 45degree 90degree etc, and oh I think 2, 3, 4, 5 all the way to 7 + layers. I will tell you this that box is laminated and carries through the wing tube where another picks up from there. Why add spruce when it is tabbed all the way around. Spruce won't do anything but add unneeded weight. Lets not pick it apart when you haven't seen the true build.

All up weight on the prototype with a bit of gas is 17lb 6oz, using futaba 9451's on all surfaces but the big boy on Rudder. 3mm 53cc engine with stock muffler..l

Flies great, it was windy but I put 3 flights on her and rung her out a bit. Extremely doscile, flies light, no roll coupling and no pitch in knife edge. It will do great rolling harriers and if I could T.R. better it would have no problem. Full elevator in any throw level will not cause a full stall, will have to work on this for IMAC.

That 3mm was swinging a Vess 23A with unlimited vertical, just not a great acceleration while going upward.

Of course this is coming from the guy who sells them, so go easy on me.

Sorry for the quip on the ply, I hate when somebody looks at a pic and decides something is wrong. I would hire an engineer but I want the project finished within the alotted time frame, for less then 4x's the initial budget, and it had to work the first time (it has) not after the third retrofit.

Scott

The price is $450 (they are taking $225 deposits for 50% down).

Re: 50cc Yak 55sp from Dawghouse

This is kind of a dirty way to get the visuals, but go to Troybuilt models and look at a 2.6m Comp Arf Yak 55sp. You'll see exactly what it will look like, but just a different color.

Scott:

I'm in, but I won't need an engine. I have more 50's than I know what to do with. What's going to be nice is that I'll have a new 50cc Sukhoi to play with about the same time as the 55. That'll be a kick to have two completely different types of round cowl 50cc planes to play with at the same time.

With all the super stuff you're putting in the hardware package it's near impossible to go wrong, especially with the whole package that includes the 3mm 53cc engine. WOW!!

Let me know how the production and shipping schedule is going to work out. I'm not concerned at all about how the flight tests go. That's part of what makes the hobby fun for me, checking them myself.

Good job!!

According to Scott and the advertisements, the Yak 55sp's are on the way. I was wondering if this is the first run or the second run of this design. Earlier Scott mentioned that the prototype weighs 17lbs 6ozs. He also said the 3mm does not provide great acceleration in the verticle. I have my toc on a 15.5lb extra. I am interested in the plane, but concerned if the TOC would be adequate for this plane.

Re: 50cc Yak 55sp from Dawghouse

The TOC 53 will provide plenty of vertical on the aircraft. It won't accelerate like you lighter plane but it will accelerate out of a hover. The planes have finally shipped and we are expecting them before Christmas..
They will be in two colors the blue as above and orange. I will have final pricing shortly but we do provide all hardware, fuel tank, wheels, and c.f. tubes.
We received two orange planes by air for advertising and the magazine review since they have been waiting patiently.
Thanks
Scott
