Re: Miro F3A

Here is a bit of a turn up. Have look at these pipe weights. Bolly carbon 140 pipe 184gm vs Rods home made 140 pipe 144 gm. My pipe had alot of flying in my 2M G202 and is a broad range pipe made from .6mm ali. From memory the front cone is tuned to 7000 and the rear cone 6000. All calculations from Jennings 'The Two stroke tuners manual' (speed of sound 1500'/sec. for methanol). Please excuse gungy epoxy scales. Also the ali pipe only needs a short exhaust extension.

I'm really digging this airplane, Rod. It seems to have the right proportions to it. I'll be keeping my eye on this one for sure!

It looks like a real sweet design, big enough to keep things slow.

I think I like it!!

I have reviewed the drawing and slightly changed the spat size to accomodate 3" wheels. See post 1.

Here are some axles with integrated spat mounts. These are much lighter and more compact than commercial items. They are made from 7075 ali which has about the same strength as mild steel. The shaft is 5mm dia. These ones are for the latest G202 I am doing.

Sprayed yet more undercoat /filler on the plug today. It is not quite perfect but I am going to call it done, I am at the point of diminishing returns. Now for a good sand with 400 and then the final coats of black and I am ready for molding. Next up is to finalise the spat design and do the spinner plug.

Rod

I am very keen on getting hold of a fuse off you. I have wing and tail sections already that I think would work well on this model. I also run an OS 160 FI in my current pattern model that I would run in it. Please let me know if you can accommodate this.

Thanks
Alan

ps I live just down the road from Baldrick.

Alan would be a great embasador. It would certainly make sense to pull another fuse for him. But that Baldrick guy? Alan and the Guzzler are the only two true gentlemen in Hamilton. Awesome looks on your bird by the way.

Alan, I will be producing these models for anyone interested in NZ. They will be glass-kevlar-foam glass with carbon reinforcements no shortcuts. I havent designed for a commercial spinner so you will probably need mine. I will be producing molds capable of vacuum bagging incase I want to go that way. I am interested in what aerodynamics you thinking of. I hacve a CNC foam cutter to produce cores. Vertical height of the stab needs flight testing to establish the best position.

Got the first coats of colour on today, nearly there, have applied more microballoon mixture and will need more undercoat and more black. Man that black really shows up the blemishes. They dont show up in the photos but I want this one to be very fair. Also notice the cooling intake which will be molded in, this will require a 3 piece mold for the cowl.

Dont know about pricing yet as the model is for my own use and I will supply it to others as a sideline. It is quite similar to the composite arf design. But there is no way of competing with their pricing even without shipping.

Re: Miro F3A

Here is a bit of detail showing the OS160, pipe and tunnel also a bit more UC detail. That motor really gets lost in there, I will tilt it over as far as I can for header clearance. The header is going to be a bit of a mission to get lined up with the pipe. I might do 2 bends and weld them together. Here is a picture of the tunnel in my 202 I will do the same thing in the Miro. The tunnel has a flange on the bottom that fits the fuse perfectly. Sprayed the last coats of black today Just need to sand it out polish wax and start molding.
