Re: CARF SU-31

howdy,

finally finished all the wiring and engine equipment installation with the new tsc (rpm regulator - worked already great in my yak). baffling is made of glass fibre coated 6mm foam sheets to keep it leightweight.

aileron servos have to be installed during the next evenings and then the maiden flight will happen.

cheers,

sascha

Re: CARF SU-31

good morning,

great news: did the successful maiden flight yesterday. wow, what a plane. it's floaty like a shock-flyer. landing speed is incredible low.

for the first flights, I limited the aileron throws to maybe 2/3 of that what's possible out of the box. was already amazing, I'm sure my fingers will be the limit, not the airframe.

it needs a small amount of knife-edge coupling, but significantly less than the extra. 5% worked pretty good.

I was surprised how agile this huge plane is. at the same time, the long tail helps to keep it straight. so this concept was absolutely the right choice.

can't say that much to the sequence capabilities, it was much too tailheavy for it. so in a next step, i will move the rc/battery/tank-plate forward and do the same with the engine. that should be enough, hopefully. if I'd build it a second time with the 170 and pipes, I'd probably install the rudder servos a bit more in the front. but mine is the second one made and the structure is much heavier than the kits will be. so consider it as a prototype.

i'm really looking forward to start practising. there's only one thing I need... BETTER WEATHER!

cheers,

sascha

Re: CARF SU-31

Hey,

thanks! I moved all the things to the front and now the CG is perfect. It's simply the best plane I've ever flown. It performs really great in both sequence and freestyle. So probably I will fly everything with the SU in Italy.

Already looking forward to October!

Cheers,

Sascha

Hallo
Do you think that Sukhoi may be a good choice for a Moki 250 radial engine. To use it for IMAC not 3D

Re: CARF SU-31

Hello,

as far as I know, the Moki 250 was already considered as an alternative engine choice during the construction phase of the SU. It works great in the 3m and 3.3m Yak and it will do so in the Sukhoi for sure.

I guess you are talking about scale aerobatics, not IMAC. It might work in the lower/beginner classes, but for complex sequences the power won't be sufficient.

Regards,

Sascha

There is still 30% more aileron deflection possible, but this was flight 7 and 8, so I'll go to the limits slightly ;-)

Cheers,

Sascha
