Need an engine recommendation

I'm looking for an engine for a Midwest AT-6. Considering a G26, Fuji 34, Evolution 26, ZDZ or RC Showcase. This will be my first gasser, so I don't have any idea about reliability and power. I know the G26 is a favorite at the field because of price and reliability, but I'm concerned about it's weight.

What can ya'll recommend in this size range?

Lol, you are sorta in the wrong site to ask about scale racers!

Cause weight dosnt matter just get a G26, you dont need to be light to go fast.

Hang on!!! Arent those models only like 72 or 78 inch????

Greg,
I dont have much experiance with this small a motor, but you might want to look at www.Brisonaircraft.com and www.aircraftinternational.com . Brison has a 2.4 and 3W has a 28cc I think. They would both be lighter than the g26. ZDZ also makes a nice engine.

I have seen the a couple of the RCS motors from RC Showcase and they run well. ZDZs are nice motors as well. Horizon hobby has a few new Evolution gas motors available in that size I believe, and they are setup very similar to a regular glow engine. Check them out at www.Horizonhobby.com , I know they have like a 36cc, and perhaps something in the 25cc range too.

Wrong site? Scale racers? Do you mean the AT-6 military trainer is a scale racer?
Watcha' mean Benny?
The plane is actually an 83" span 1/6th scale military trainer that will come to about 15lbs. AUW.
But, I know you knew that Benny, you were just yankin' his chain

Greg, you're in the right place, I personally don't have any experience in the smaller gas motors, but from what I've heard, the ones that Wood is Good and Tank talked of are very good motors.

You can't go wrong with the Brison, the 3W or the ZDZ.

Re: Need an engine recommendation

Thanks for all the quick responses. And come to think of it, I might just build it as a Reno racer! Nothing wrong with that.....

I'm going to Perry, GA this weekend for the big swap meet, maybe I'll run across a deal on a 3W, ZDZ, or Brison. I'm getting all the specs together on a spreadsheet now so I know what I'm looking at.

See ya....

Greg,

Building that kit as a racer, now that would be cool!! I've only seen a couple of pics of the AT-6 as a racer, they looked just like the scale bird, except for the emblems.

That would be a sweet change for the AT-6's that you normally see at the field. You never know, there might just be a few closet speed freaks on the Giants site already.

Good luck on the build, keep us informed.

Here in Australia every year they have the Adelaide air races.

There is three classes I think, the AT 6 Clss where everyone has to run a Midwest kit or another AT 6 kit of the smae size, they must run a maximum size of 120 glow motor all on the same fuel.

Then there is the Reno class, where everyone has to run a G62 Zenoah and of course the model must be a Spitfire/Mustang etc.

And finally there is also an Unlimited class I think.

Yeah Benny,

The Midwest kit calls for a 91 to 120 size 2-stroke, with that motor the plane would come in around 11lbs. If it were propped right, that thing would be a blast to fly!!

Sounds like fun!!!
