Couple of questions regarding the newer released 55M

1. With the cowl ring and what appears to be 6 bolts....how do you fasten them? Surely I hope a long driver through the inside of the cowl around the engine isn't what was decided to be user friendly?

2. Some of the cowl pics show the cowl louvers open others don't....which is it? Do they ship with or without the louvers cut open?

My 55M was 4 screws external, and 2 behind the hatch.

They go in from inside the wing pocket by the leading edge.

Here is mine after a crash from a dead stick at low altitude. Mine had four screws that went into the cowl from the back. Two at the top and one in front of each wing. The bottom two went in from the front. I had the bottom of the scoop cut out for cooling so all I did was reach through there with an allen key. In this picture the cowl ring is still bolted on and the fiberglass had pulled free of the ring.

Yeah, totally different mounting mwthod than the 55M. Doug's pics show a 55SP.

Also, who says you cant mod it to how you want it to be. All part of being a modeler.

Its called the YakSP 55M. The regular non-SP has a far better mounting method but with the stupid bubble on top

Pics were taken right from their webpage

http://www.egaircraft.com/products.php?sort=14&id=39

Clearly shows the YakSP 55M with the mounting method I posted above which is also the same as Doug posted originally.

Now about the Louvers....

All of the current OMP Yaks have open louvers in the cowling. The 50cc version is the SP version and has 4 bolts to mount the cowling. Two on the top of the cowling that attach from the inside of the fuselage. The other two are on the bottom of the cowling and attach from the front of the cowling. The 120cc size Yak is a 55M version and has 6 bolts to attach the cowling. Two at the top of the cowling that attach from inside the fuselage and 4, 2 on each side of the cowling that attach from the outside.

Anybody have a spare fuselage for this 100cc OMP Yak SP-55M. I diggered mine into some tall grass today and broke the engine off at the firewall. Minor damage to a wing, everything else was fine including the cowl.

Chuck if you don't find one it should be repairable. The same thing happened to mine as well as the gear ripped out and it was repaired. The engine box sheared off at the firewall.

I just started looking at the damage in more detail and I'm not sure it can be fixed to my satisfaction. The front of the fuselage is twisted from the impact with a lot of major pieces broken on the left side. I will look at more tomorrow. It has been flown for four summers, so I've gotten my money's worth. Still sad.

Just asking again, anyone know where I can get a fuselage for the Yak?
