Engine Baffling - 100cc Yak

I ordered the 100cc Yak last week with the DLE111, making this my first 100cc plane. Do I need to put cooling baffles inside the cowl and if so, does anyone have pictures of what they have done? Any comments would be appreciated.

Chuck

Hi Chuck, I have had a couple of 100cc Yaks that worked great without any baffles. One was SD and the other Pilot, all I did was cut the bottom out of the "oil cooler" of the lower aft part of the cowl.

This is from a 100cc Yak. On a larger yak, I had to remove even more of the cowl over the cylinder heads. It depends upon how big the opening is in the cowl. I use 1/16 balsa to form the baffles and then put two layers of fiberglass on the inside of the balsa (helps to connect the balsa to the inside of the cowl)

On this larger yak, I had to remove a lot of the cowl front over the cylinder heads. I dropped the temps about 60 or 80 degrees Fahrenheit after this mod. The checkerboard pattern hides the fact that I removed an entire square of the checkerboard.

Some times you need baffles and some times you don't.
