Anybody ever purchase from The World Models?

What was your experience like? I’m looking at the 1/3 scale Clipped wing Cub. I’ve watched some YouTube videos of it. It looks like it’s well built.

I went to their factory years ago when I was in Hong Kong. The owners brother owned helicopter world? In San Jose and got me the tour. I am not so sure he isn’t their US face still. They have been around forever.. all of the planes I have had were well built. They use a lot of industrial hot glue and it is good. Better than the put the ca on with a dry toothpick that most manufacturers use. Covering material was ok. It would eventually let go on the edges on glow planes. But they all do..

Back in the early 2000's the WM ARF's were nearly the go-to ARF when we wanted something new. There were dozens around the flying fields. I actually built a few dozen different WM planes and made some money doing it. They all flew well... that I do know.

I've had several, matter of fact I still have 3 that survived, very intact and still in great shape after nearly 20yrs. These are smaller .60-1.20 size ARF's, and I've taken good care of them, but it's not hard at all. The covering is that Ora-cover, or Ultra-Kote, which seems to stand up decently, even to the harsher glow-fuel environment we had back then.

Mine were built as good or better then many on the market back then. I'm sure there's better ARF's out there now, but for what they want for the WM planes, it's always seemed like a fair price for what you get.

Like any other ARF, they need to be inspected, and shored up and/or modified for whatever equipment the assembler deems needed, but yeah, I'd say go for it.

DGrant, I don’t believe that World Models ever used Ultracote on their planes. I owned two early kits that were covered with real Monokote then later on and to this day they switched to their own covering called Toughlon. For awhile SIG was selling that covering under their own brand and some of their ARFs were made by World.

I really don’t care for Toughlon as it has issues sticking to itself and seams open over time. Every plane I’ve seen covered with the stuff has had the same problem. Iron it back down and it creeps open soon after. I recovered one plane to get away from the stuff and I know several cases of other people doing the same.

Other than that, World Models are good value and they fly well.

Great. I hadn’t heard of them until recently. I wanted to do some homework before placing an order over seas. Sounds like it’s a go.

Airborne Models is based in Livermore Ca. and is their U.S. distributor.
I have seen the 1/3 clipped wing Cub and it is impressive. An 85 or 100cc is the ticket. A set of floats from Balsa USA or some bush wheels and ya got pure fun.

It really rockets with a 100. The cylinders on a red head 110 from 3W would look cool sticking out the sides of that cowl.

Gene it looks great. Did you order from Airborne Models.

They are very well built and fly great. My first one had 11 years of float and ground flying on it. I gave it to a friend and bought a new one. The covering is poor and stripes tend to blow off. I pin striped this one and have had no issues so far. I have a DA-100 In mine with a set of Balsa USA Floats.

Any pics of #1 with the bush wheels?
It's been a while, hope all is well.

Wow it’s amazing what those stripes do for that airplane. Looks great. Now I really want one lol. It must be a trick to get that cowl on over that engine.

I just checked his cowl. I like that method instead of making a 2 piece cowl. Which I have almost done. I may order another and do it like it’s shown.
