Setup for more throw.
After installed new servos on my comap arf yak 55 I noticed the throw with the stock setup does not seem enough. Planning on buying longer aluminum servo arms and also replacing the hardware between. What hardware would you put on large scale 3D plane? 2 servos per wing.

One thing is the phenolics in the aileron will need to be doubled up so the new ball link is bolted between the 2 plates |

You need to use more like this setup
Good quality Dubro 4-40 or 3mm ball links with a s/steel or titanium turnbuckle to suit the chosen ball like ie: 4/40 or 3mm . Arms best in the game is SWB but secraft and extreme flight make really solid arms as well |

Got it thanks! The only thing I can't change is the arm on the surface itself. would it be an issue to do your setup with keep the 1 arm i circled?

I am not the original owner but i'd guess it to be about 7-8 years old. Bought 2 planes from a guy and now rebuilding them. Not sure how that horn is held in there.

This is what you actually need..... They make JR and Hitec splined arms as well, for this servo horn. I have these on my Comp ARF MX2. They work well, on my elevators. I have 1.5" and 2" arms on the ailerons. The 2.9M has both aileron servos ganged inboard.

I would cut the single horns with a cutting disk and replace all of them by these ones.
I use these servo arms on my 50ccs but there are many options on the market. For the linkages I would use good quality ball links and control rods preferably the type with turnbuckle. I'm not a big fan of these hidden aileron servo trays as they rarely allow you to use the maximum servo throws (above 100%). I usually have to lengthen the arm slots or install the aileron servos in the conventional way. Bellow a few pictures of the Vantex Edge 50cc I built. The kit came with those adjustable control horns which I don't like since they tend to bend and misalign, leading to precision loss. Ronaldo

I'd suggest applying masking tape around the horn to protect the covering, this will also give you a reference to when stop trimming. Just take care when drilling the holes to ensure they are as perpendicular as possible to the control surface center line (viewed from the side), this will make it easier to align the screws. A drill press would be perfect but if you don't have one simply use a very small screw driver to dril pilot holes using the fiberglass backplate as a guide, then just progressively increase the holes until you can fit the screws. Take care not to over-tighten the nuts as you may end up crushing the balsa. If you're really picky, you could add thin CA to the holes before inserting the screws to stiffen the wood. Ronaldo |

The Single surface arms will work fine, There around the 2.5mm thick?
The current setup does put force on the horn equally, Ball links will have its force slighty more to the side. But i dont feel it will be a big issues, As this side mounted servo does not force the horn to twist like a top mounted will. There is a few 100cc Kits that are done like, Emhw Pitts challenger is one. So i would ball links, buckles with 2 inch servo arms as mick3d listed. |

You'd have to use a standard drill or drill press but either way that would still be an easy task. Ronaldo |
