Re: a little foamy yak project...

Jason that sucks dude! I'm not sure how that could have happened... Do any of the wires look
burned or anything? I'm not sure If you coulf rewind that motor or not. I guess its probably
possible, but I wouldnt know the first thing about how to do it. what is your setup again?
And what size prop where you using on your maden that got the motor so hot?
Brian, yeah, we definatly need to get together soon! I Dont have anything to build now so
The vrolet will be a welcomed treat are you free any this week? I have wednesday off
and I definately want to go flying.
Well A big thanks to Tony (Aviti) for hooking me up with my electronics for my yak!
E-flite 300 outrunner, Pheonix 10 ESC, 4.7g dymonds, and an e-flite S-60 for my ailerons.
Thanks again Tony!! I should have the yak ready to go in a couple of days

Re: a little foamy yak project...

Hey Jared

I was using a 10*5 apc prop on my axi 2208/34

I really dont know what happened, the wires are cleanly broken

It might be from a "bump" I had a while ago?

And the sad thing is that it is only 5 months old

Its great to hear that you got your electronics-How does the E-flight perform on a shocky, maybe I should go for one of those instead

Re: a little foamy yak project...

I dont think the 10x5 prop would have caused a big overheating issue... It kinda sounds more
like the "bump" you speak of
I have an e-flite inrunner 370 that i had mounted in a MPI gearbox a while
back that was on a tribute foamy... I was just learning 3D stuff, and i dumped it pretty hard
and broke the stick mount. Well, I kinda had a little too much throttle when it hit the ground
because when the stick mount broke, it twisted the 3 motor wires all up. Well The motor
worked just fine for about a few weeks after that, But sudenly started doing that same
twitchy stuff that your Axi is doing. Turns out that right inside the motor the wires had began
to break and werent making a good connection.
So after a big long story about my previous mishap, I think it was the bump that caused your problems. Is there a warranty on your motor? I sent mine back to horizon and they
fixed it for free!
I havent tried the 300 on my yak yet, but i think it should be a perfect match...
Tony gave it to me mounted on a small ultimate profile that he had built, and i've been having
too much fun with that plane to strip everything out of it yet

The all up weight without battery is 4 1/4 ounces!!!!!I knew it would be light, but wow!

Casey did you start building yours yet?
I figure that even 6 oz with the battery is a pretty light plane for having a 34in wingspan

Re: a little foamy yak project...

Whew! I know i'm retarded for trying to fly a 5 3/4 ounce foamy outside in the wind, but i just
couldnt help myself! The wind was VERY strange yesterday... It would be dead calm right until
my wheels left the ground. As soon as i unplugged the battery, sure enough, dead calm again.
Very annoying. When it WAS dead calm, this little dude was super impressive! crazy easy hovers,
super slow knife edge, killer rolling harriers, inverted and upright harriers are VERY stable,
and i've never had a foamy that waterfalls this good.
I think i'm going to build another one....This time i'll blow the plans up a hair more, and i'll
use mostly 6mm depron and build it stiff for outdoor flying!
heres a few pics that my buddy took....

Re: a little foamy yak project...

Hey Jared

THose pics and your plane are awesome
Definately keep us posted when you build another

Well ,the shop emailed me back the next day and told me that they were gonna repair it ,Im just not sure how long its gonna take

turns out that the stator came loose causing the wires to snap as the stator twisted while the motor was running

I cant take the waiting-my yak is just sitting there looking at me

Do you also find the hovering easier than normal?

and how is your E-flight performing?

Glad to see your plane in the air and flying in the wind can be really fun-where I live, its windy alot of the time so flying in windless condions is hard for me

Re: a little foamy yak project...

Thanks! I'm really enjoying this little guy! I'll definately do another build thread or something when i start the next one.
Thats awesome about your motor! I hope you get it back soon
I do feel that the hovers are move stable....I've never had the nuts to drag the rudder before,
But now i've rubbed a big flat spot on the back of the rudder from dragging it on the runway
My e-flite 300 is AWESOME! with the 300mah 11.1v lipo the thing will go straight up for just about forever. Pullout from hovers are estes rocket style!
heres another couple of pics...
