Re: Krill Thunder 3D Build Thread!

Motor ad motor box end pretty much all sorted now as well.

Glued to the fuz using hysol, to be honest this would have probably been more than up to the job on its own, but just for an extra bit of strength and to neaten everything up I've added carbon fibre tow around the join between the motor box and fuz around the front and also some CF cloth at the back

Little bit more done, CF tow round where the UC sits and cut the holes for the leads from the wings, no an awful lot left to do now, trays should be with me soon.

Took the opportunity while it was nice outside to put it all together and get a couple of shots of the model all together, see if we can turn a few of you haters in to lovers

That is looking nice Graham. How are you attaching the CF tow to the cutouts. I am off work in 1 week and will start builing then.

Re: Krill Thunder 3D Build Thread!

I think its a great looking model, being met with a lot of opposition at the moment but I think its just because its so different, nice to finally see something new out rather than the same old yaks and extras all the time

For the CF tow I slightly rough up the area I want to tow, use a brush to brush the resin mix on to the area, cut the tow to length and then place it where I want it, then just use a brush again to brush more resin over the top to seal it all in, then it's a case of leaving it for 24hrs. Once it's dry though it makes an amazing difference, the cooling holes are super strong now as are the UC holes.
Just make sure you mask the outside of the model off where you want to apply the resin and tow, otherwise it may drip through the hole

Jan,

looks very nice, I look forward to hearing your reports on the model and that original AXI set up. With your AUW I don't think you should have any problems, you should have loads of power!

Mine should hopefully be finished in about a week now

Nice to see one finally in the air, mine should be finished in the next week or so now. The ailerons look absolutely insane

I picked my trays up tonight for my thunder.

These are superb, awesome job on them, lite ply with 1.5mm CF plate covering them and they really look the part, should make the thunder internals look really neat

Hopefully get them all fitted tomorrow

Re: Krill Thunder 3D Build Thread!

Hi

I think the Thunder 3D is a plane we don't see on the field everyday... so that's good to see new aircraft design. I like it.

@Graham: I have seen the pictures you have taken during the build. I was quite surprised when I see the way you mount the motor in the cowl.... Why do you have do it like this? Is it enough rigid?

The CF touch inside the fuz is so cool!!!

Regards and have good flights (even if it is cold )

David

Dave,

I have mounted the motor on the motor box supplied with the model on to the fuselage.

I know the designer and Jan I think it is have mounted their motors in the actual cowl itself, I have gone for the motor mounted to the box on the fuselage, this way the right thrust for the motor is already pre set in the motor box as well, very rigid and the cowl simply slots over then

Perhaps Jan could suggest why he has mounted the motor in the cowl as a pose to the fuselage? Both ways seem more than adequate and secure though
